chapter 2

A Chapter by Jorge Ramos

Justin was the first to arrive, as he got out of his truck, he reached for the keys. He walked to his front door, and showed himself inside. He went upstairs to use the restroom. When he was done, as accustomed, he primped up before leaving the bathroom. He checked his Pitch black hair for ugliness, which made no sense to Justin. He checked his smooth skin for any blemishes, he had a pronounced jaw, which was Justin’s favorite feature of his face. Finally Justin checked his Green eyes for dark circles. All clear. As soon as Justin opened the bathroom door he heard a knock at the front door. Charlie arrived.  Justin ran down the stairs; he was glad he had some other company than his mother.

“hey! Haven’t seen you in the longest time right?” Charlie said with a small chuckle. Justin knew he was going to like this guy. Justin felt that a good sense of humor was always the key to a good life and real friends.

“I no right?” Justin smiled slightly.

“so what do you do when your bored?” Charlie asked as he looked at the walls and ceilings, as if covered with awe.

“nothing! That’s not even a lie, we don’t have cable yet so I’m basically online all day.”

“cool, we should walk around the neighborhood then, are you aloud?”

“yea, my mom doesn’t care, she’s never home.”

“ok, lets go for a walk then.”

The pair left the front door and headed for the street. This was an excellent form for Justin to get to know Charlie and the neighborhood better. They took a left turn and came to a street with houses of the exact same style, color, and yard. All yellow, all small, and the lawn was perfectly kept.

“wow” Justin said in amazement.

“yea, my friend Nicole lives here. We should meet her. she lives in that yellow house” Charlie pointed with the only house with a black cat in the drive way licking its paws to clean itself. Justin really did not like this street very much, partially because, it was all the same, a lot like clones. As they neared the house, Charlie knocked on the door. A short girl, not taller than five foot two, answered, she was beautiful in the eyes of both Justin and Charlie, her blonde hair was tangled but still it had a sense of beauty and grace. Her face was small with gorgeous features. Her eyes were black as coal but still they had certain friendliness to them.

“Hey Nicole!” Charlie says spontaneously

“hey Char, who’s this?” Nicole asks pleasantly.

“oh, this is Justin, he’s my new neighbor.”

“hey Justin”

“hey.” Justin could not stop staring at Nicole’s beautiful eyes. He thought he was going to start to drool. When at that moment Nicole asked if they could wait a moment as she turned around and went back inside. Justin felt this as relief. They waited two minutes when she came outside.

“sorry, I had to tell my mom that I was going out.” Justin tried not to look at Nicole, for he felt if he did, his body would get completely numb.

“So what’s’ up guys, where were you guys going?” Nicole asked Charlie.

“we weren’t going any were, I just wanted to introduce Justin to you.”

“Oh, awesome, so how long have you been here?”

“um, uh, uh, about uh, less than a week.” Justin studied as he answered Nicole’s question, she just giggled her small bubblely laugh. Justin smiled as he heard his laugh. It seemed strange, but Justin seemed to like her. he seemed to like every aspect of her. from her  night black eyes to her beautiful blonde hair. He knew that he should probably take it easy at the moment, because he just met her, in fact he was thinking, what if they want to kill me and Nicole is the Distraction? He imagined himself, tied on to a spin wheel, in a dark room, while Nicole was laughing historically, and Charlie was Shirtless apparently showing off his muscles as he through sharp knifes at him nearly piercing his face.

“Char, did you do your summer project yet?” Nicole was talking to Charlie as they left Nicole’s front door.

”Na, not yet it’s the second week of summer, how bout you?”

“I'm working on it. Its gonna be great!”

“Really? What are you doing it on?”

“Plato’s philosophical theory, it’s so interesting.”

Wow smart and beautiful Justin smiled.

“You’re so lucky that you don’t get to do this stupid project.” Nicole said to Justin, He just laughed,

“Yea, but, still I’m so bored at home that I could do one for the heck of it.”

“When I’m at home I get really bored too.” Charlie said responding to Justin.

“Where are we going?” Nicole asked Charlie

“Uh, I don’t know. Were do you want to go?” Charlie asked Nicole.

“What are you talking about? You made me stop watching my favorite TV show for nothing?”

“well we never told you that we were heading-“  Charlie started as they all stopped walking because of Nicole.
“Oh, hold on.” Nicole reached for her pocket. Her Cell phone was ringing. She took out her blue Nokia, and answered

“Hello? Yea…..ok, ill be there in a sec.” Nicole closed the phone and looked up, “I forgot that we got church today, its almost four.” She put her phone away, “I got to go, Ill see you guys later.” Nicole turned around and headed for her home which was 3 houses away.

“Bye” Charlie and Justin said simultaneously, as they walked to there own houses.

“She seems pretty cool right?” Charlie asked Justin, “Me and her are good friends. But we only know each other a bit.”

“Justin smiled. “Yea, she seems awesome”

“Well I think I’m heading home.”

“Yea me too.”

“I’ll see you tomorrow ok?”

“Sure, my place at ten.”

“Kay”

Justin walked inside pondering about today. He thought, about how earlier that same morning, Charlie may have seen him nude, he thought about Fred’s gas and diner, we’ll give you gas if you try our food! Justin smiled as he headed for the couch. He thought about how cool of a guy Charlie actually was, and finally he thought about, Nicole. Justin sat down and exhaled. She seemed so innocent, but yet, so devilish in a way that, it confused him, and it was so confusing to him that he went all gaga for this girl that he had barley met.  Justin scratched his head. Could it be love? Or was he just compelled by her extreme beauty?

He got up from the couch after ten minutes of intense thought, and headed for his room. As he stepped inside, he saw the beautiful sun set that appeared outside his window. The orange light filled his room with color. Justin walked up to his window and looked out. He had never been so amazed to find the perfect house, in the perfect neighborhood, with the perfect girl. He even was surprised to know that he had made friends within three days of moving. Justin looked at the Maple from his window; he could see a robin building a nest out of twigs. He admired the tree’s hue. He looked over to Charlie’s back yard; there he was in his swimming pool. His house was similar to Justin’s in that they both had similar features; they were both two story, they both were same size and shape. Charlie’s was a shade of pumpkin orange. The only thing that was different from the two houses was that Charlie’s had a pool. The pool was surrounded by white marble tile. The water was crystal clear. Charlie jumped off the diving board. There was a loud splash. Justin remembered he had only been in a pool once or twice. He hated pools, partially because of Alemdale.

Veronica, the popular girl from his school, had invited him to her pool party, Justin was psyched to go because this was the first “cool party” he had ever been to. And what made him feel even more psyched was that he had recently lost over thirty pounds, he wanted to go to show off his new body. But to his luck all his old bathing suits were too big. He guessed that he would probably not go at all. When he told Veronica the story, she said “aw, just were them any ways!!!” Justin smiled and did as she had told him to. The day of the party, every one was doing a series of jumps off the diving board. Jon the Quarter back went up first, then it was Pete, then finally Justin, I’m doing this the best that I can so I can impress... he took the dive. He landed in the water, with ease, but just as he surfaced, he heard something else surface. He turned around and there he saw his black Swimming trunks. Every one burst out laughing. Justin hated being in just his bathing suit, so to prevent more than two incidents, he avoided any place with pools or water.

Charlie did another jump off his diving board. In all this time Justin never saw Charlie’s mother or father. It surprised him too because he never mentioned anything about living with his mom or dad. He also didn’t remember how old Charlie was; he didn’t think Charlie mentioned this. Even though he and Charlie had become friends they still new nothing about each other.

Charlie did a last jump from the board when just then, Justin’s worst nightmare replayed right there in front of him, but this time it was Charlie instead of himself Charlie got out of the water, still not noticing, when, he panicked. Instead of running and grabbing the shorts, he darted inside to hide glancing up to Justin’s window. His jaw dropped Charlie saw Justin looking out the window at his direction he could see Justin laughing, Justin was indeed laughing, for he noticed how funny it was. After a brief moment, Charlie vanished, under his roof top.

I guess were all human then!  Justin laughed out loud.

He laid in his bet for a wile looking at magazines, when he got up to check Myspace.

After typing his email and password in, a new screen came up with his face on it. He scrolled down the screen and saw three alerts: New Messages! New Comments!, New Friend Requests! Justin clicked on the new messages first. A new screen came up, with a message from his friend Doug, and a new message from a girl he had never met before. He clicked on the message, it read:  hey sexy, I was just looking at your profile and I decided,”this guy you want to see nude pictures of me and my friends? Go to my page!  Right bellow the message there was a link that said “here”

“Spam” Justin said as he ignored the message. He clicked home and clicked the friend request link. It was Nicole! She requested an add from Justin. Justin looked at her picture, she was looking toward the top left with her mouth twisted, making a kissing motion to the right. She was also making peace signs. In the background you could see some one, smoking in her presence. Justin clicked add. He went to her profile and saw her intro:

Hey! My name is Nicole! Of course! I live in Konel! WHOOOO!!!! Yea! Lol, I really love it here and don’t mind much of the bad stuff. I go to Blue moon high school, I love the name too! Uh, yep so that’s me! Message me when u want or just CoMeNt!  As Justin scrolled down he saw a comment box with the words peace out Girl Scout!  Justin clicked the button Comment. He exhaled.

Justin heard a noise that startled him.   He looked up at his window, the sun was set. It was dark outside. It occurred to him to look at his clock. 8:12 he got up from his seat and walked to his door. He looked down the steps and saw that his mother was closing the door on her way in.

“Hey Justin!” his mother said as she looked up at him. She headed for the kitchen. Justin followed down the stairs. He could hear his mother looking through the kitchen cabinets. “Did you eat yet?” she asked him while she grabbed a bag of chips.

Justin had just noticed he had not eaten since the cookies from the same morning. He was starving. “No, actually I haven’t!” He said as he clutched his stomach. He started to feel the hunger.

“Grab some Spaghetti from the fridge!” she said, pointing to the silver refrigerator in the corner of the kitchen. Justin headed for the spaghetti. The pan was cold. He couldn’t imagine how the left over spaghetti would taste like, but still, he was very hungry. He stuck it in the microwave for 2 minutes and snatched it out, he was starving! Justin dumped the hot food on to a china plate. He reached for a fork and ate the food.

He could feel the warm tomato sauce in his mouth, the chewy pasta lingering with the sauce, he grabbed a coke from the fridge and chugged half of it, making his eyes water. The food was so good he had forgotten it was left overs from the day they moved in.

As Justin finished, he grabbed a seat with his mom, questioning her day.

“It was great! It was real fun! This was an awesome promotion” Justin’s mom’s blue eyes lit up when she spoke of her job.

“And the best part was that I met some one!” her wide dimpled smile traveled across her face, “his name is Bryan,” she paused for a moment and said, “now don’t laugh, but it’s gonna sound funny, uh, he’s a janitor.” She closed her eyes, waiting for Justin’s laugh. But it never came.

“That’s good, uh, so I guess you forgot about dad, huh?” Justin looked down at his twiddling thumbs as he said this, “I mean, I guess imp happy for you but still you can’t forget him, can you?” His mother just looked in shock.

“Of course not!” she reached and hugged Justin, “your father was a wonderful man, he loved us. No man will ever take his place in my heart Justin, you know that!”

Justin looked up and spoke quietly to his mother, “I no mom… I probably shouldn’t worry about it.” Justin got up, “I’m going to bed ok mom?”

“No problem honey!” she said as her eyes followed him up the stairs.

Justin got ready for bed; he put on his pajamas brushed his teeth and headed to his room. Justin sighed. He was tiered from all of what happened that day. Tiered from his thoughts of Nicole, tired from him wondering was he ever going to find peace with him and his mother? He never really thought about it. As he got under the covers. He wondered did Charlie actually see me walk in this morning. And he fell asleep.
