Gypsy Violin ♪

A Poem by Frieda P
"

Thanks Emma Joy, your words inspired this one; "be a violin or whatever.. sweep yourself across the strings"..........

"
Gypsy at night in my soul
I play the violin
strumming to my heart's content
of my stories untold

Moon winks ornery with dismay
as the furious tunes beguile,
the skies all a fluster
they've turned a dismal grey

Ravens take flight in their delusions
swaying frenzied to the memories
upon my disenchanted head
dancing darkly to my allusions

this is so poe-ish...but reminds me of sherlock holmes in Murder by Decree, playing the violin after he went to see annie crook at the mental institution and how he cried for her...even as he was playing..

the violin is a beautiful instrument but can play such sad, haunting notes.

this poem is sad and haunting.

This is absolutely stunning. The soft music of the violin playing in the background emphasizes this and gives it that much depth and elegance with the soft sound of sorrow and longing. You are quite talented indeed.

Thank you Wildwood Fox, glad you enjoyed it. Nice of you to drop in.
Oh I love this one! such amazing imagery. I really got the gypsy vibe...that just off kilter, something magical lurks here feel. Could be my mood but I thought this was exquisite :)

Oh how I love that word 'exquisite' thanks for this lovely review Kristin! :-)
This is real mood music...both the fiddle and Frieda`s fandango. Well done, love. P.

Ha Freida's fandango put a silly smile on my face, thanks Pete. :-)
Gypsies, violins, and moonlight - truly the stuff of poetry! I like the structure of this piece, and the auditory and kinesthetic imagery - very cool!

Very cool review Rita, thanks so much!
Love the music. I still do not know how to insert music/video! lol
The piece is just like the music it enchants but with a dark cloud ever present.

Thanks John, if you're really interested, I'll send you a PM.
Pleasing imagery. Could the violin perhaps symbolize the gypsy's creativity (or our own)? Often writing seems much like writing music, each word a note, searching for the perfect combination to convey our "stories untold."

I think writing is very much like the music in our hearts being released, much appreciate the visit .. read more
This is a very interesting piece of imagery. The writing is a mesmerizing, dark, enthralling work of the abstract, even though the words are simplistic enough. Your ideas, however, are enigmatic in a lovely way, although the reason is not exactly clear to me. Perhaps it is because a gypsy playing to the chords of a dark night, pricked by the sounds of fowls is such a seemingly perfect fit . . . the music also helps to move the dark undertones along as well.

One question- did you mean to write 'illusions' or 'allusions' at the end?

Thank you for sharing!

A thoughtful well versed poem will an ease of flow. The opening verse pulls you in, in a sort of romantic way and then the poem twists a little on its intended path on to an ominous ending. A great write over all. Glad you shared it Frieda.
