~Exhale Poetry

~Exhale Poetry

A Poem by Frieda P

Butterfly haunts me
flutters by in the dark of night
when the smoke cleared
all that was left was a still photograph
no breath to be had, no words to be spoken
perched upon my mind where no one can see
all the secrets that taunt me

Left behind in your spirit
like an erratic zephyr they twist my head
nothing sacred in how you fled the atmosphere
I oft wonder have you found that freedom
as you floated from this earth
markings on the sky of colorless clues
the painted scenery still not clear
all that's left to do is exhale poetry

Sometimes the words we string together are the only respite we have. They are our armor or if the barrage is less intense, our umbrella. I feel the sorrow here and the despairing frustration that such a loss must engender. Exhaling poetry would necessarily be the only comfort.

Very sad, thanks jacob....
Oh and you exhale it with such style Frieda! Poignant and sad, these words flow through the readers mind with such beauty(even in the sadness).
I think I just might wait for that book also!!

You're too kind wordwarrior, thanks so much, glad you enjoyed!
You exhale, and we breath it in, Frieda. This is an achingly beautiful piece.

This is beautiful and so poignantly sad Frieda. Your words are filled with haunting images.

Thanks so much Anne.
The end of the cycle? Somethings can never be gotten past, the best we do is learn to live despite the hurt. Have you ever counted how many times you use the words zephyr and butterfly?

Probably not as many times as I've wanted to kick your arse ;-) Thanks Mark.
This poem echos your voice frieda. The butterfly is the memory of your sister and this piece is so personal and beautiful and poetic, I adore it, one of my favorites on the whole of the cafe for sure

Thanks Adam.
This is an achingly beautiful piece, my friend. The sadness of it is palpable, the imagery is beyond lovely. You've left me in tears, here, again...both for your tragic loss...and for my own.
Even through the computer screen, across the miles that separate Jersey from Bama, I can feel the overwhelming sadness coming from you in waves...but deep in that sadness, there is the whisper of love.
Exhale poetry...what an elegant phrase...
