~Communion of Poets

~Communion of Poets

A Poem by Frieda P

Walt Whitman
“I act as the tongue of you,
... tied in your mouth . . . . in mine it begins to be loosened.”
― Walt Whitman

The spaces between us grow closer together
as your pen spills vital relevance unto the pages
wafting by in abundant grandeur
the scent is quite intoxicating
innate
lifeblood to fulfill our quill's revelry,
words that enchant and gratify to lift the spirits
hearts aglow or souls asunder
we split hairs and break bread
recompense to satisfy conscious
 yearnings
that which separates us makes us stronger
to share another moment in the life of
each and every poet who possesses the wherewithal
to lay it on the line and communion with others
anointed in the realm of poetry we are connected
as ink scrawls across the pages into our hearts
bleeding emotions to join in our commandments of commonality
our swords pen the words that echo humanity

I feel like I have just been knighted! The best thing about writing poetry is having someone get what I am saying and relate to it. There are so many people in my non internet life (almost all of them, in fact) who say the pretty things and pat me on the head when they read something I have written. It's in the eyes, though. When their eyes glaze over, I know they don't get it. I am so happy I have this place to share and whine and joke and cry and scream and remember in. So happy. Nicely done, Frieda. Angi~

Well said, dear poet.
When the Valley Of Ghosts reveals no escape it is the words of poets wide and far that leads me to a higher ground, a sunlit crest. Commonality offers much comfort for me. Thank you for framing this truth so eloquently, Frieda.

Ahhh, would you like some Twizzlers little girl? ;-) xoxo
I feel like I matter now after reading this piece. Even if I only make sense or matter to myself. It seems everyone around me outside of WC looks at me like some lunatic,(although that may be the case on a small scale) because I write. There are plenty of pieces I haven't posted probably due to criticism outside of WC. This is why I stay close to WC, it's where I fit in.

Ah, sweet damsel, shall it ever be
That hearts, like words, shall blend?
And in doing so, permit the soul to see
The passionate, though bloody pen . . . .

Couldn't help myself. Off my meds. Excellent work, Frieda. I mean that, absolute excellence.

Be still my heart, did you just write that? Thanks so much Dave.
what is poetry if not the artistic expression in words of multidimensional life as it springs from every pore of humanity... communication of asthetics, wonder and awe... sometimes poetry is like the cave painting of 32,000 years ago and 32,000 years from now we will write and paint and sing because we have to, because we can... these were some of the things I was thinking as I read your words Frieda... ~~redzone

This is high poetry about poetry. Actually about writers of poetry. In line with Angi I find that most people take the easy way out when they look at art. "Oh very nice", or "that worked well" being the most common. To the point where I feel praised by a faint damn.
Well written Frieda.

You humble me sweet Ken, thanks so much.
People with poetry in their souls...well, they are different from other people. They just don't "fit the mold"...
Here, on this site, we are able to commune, heart to heart...and we find that our differences melt away in the heat of our passion. As we share our deepest emotions in the words that we pen, we become as close as any family, ties forged not of blood...but of ink...

Okay, so it's a dysfunctional family....and we do have our black sheep, don't we? But then, what family is perfect?????

Ha so true Angel, sometimes dysfunctional still works, as we can all attest to here. ;-)
There is no distance between one poet's soul and another... what a lovely ode to this communion you have given us, Frieda.

It is a family which I am so blessed to have found. :)

Amen to that, thanks Rita. :-)
"innate lifeblood" "hearts aglow or souls asunder" Two of my favorite lines...
You've captured a strong sense of community.

Your talk of breaking bread, communion, and commandments belies an innate spirituality and connection to other writers. Precisely connective imagery... :)
