i stand before

i stand before

A Poem by The Shadow of the Dawn

I stand before the golden gates,

Watching the others sing and play,

In my care they play

I stand before the dying

Watching as the souls leave there bodies,

Into my care they come

I stand before the battles of war

Watching as the brave fight and fall

In my care they will live forever

I stand before the families

Watching as the cry

Knowing that in my care the lost cry with them

I am the Seeker of the lost

Keeper of the gate

I am Death

I really like this. It's an interesting perspective. I like the exploration of the many sides of death. It makes me think of the book thief.

Beautiful ~ I love the leading statements (sorry for the lack of seriousness or this example, but it kind of reminds me of 20 Questions) and the answer at the end. The lack of clear cut emotions along with the undertones really makes me shiver and smile. It makes Death into an entity, as it is, but also into a human, especially with the use of the word I.

One little thing - I think that if you capitalized "Death" at the end, that might be more effective. Just my personal opinion. Feel free to take this advice or ditch it.

Very good lead into the care of Death - who is always busy.

Death had a hard job. Old world is on the wrong path. I like the way you set-up the strong ending of the poem with good description. I like the ending to the outstanding poem.
