Push, Push These Words Back

Push, Push These Words Back

A Poem by Travis Lawrence
"

About all the things we only think about saying

"

Sunken sentences

slink half way

up our throats

pushed and shoved

back down to a weight,

a bruised heavy coating

just over the waist line,

inside, a rotten green

guilt for even

briefly thinking

this phrase should be said.

Hundreds of sour

times, especially

on attritional days,

these brave words reach

across our sight’s

landscape of horizons,

and silently

our eyes and other

sense grab them

back and bury

their sound miles

down in the distance

where the Earth dips.

As usual, you've offered another splendid piece. It's another one of those that everyone can identify with. How often we want to say things but hold back for various reasons. It would be great to be able to say what we wanted to say, rather than being forced to choke down unuttered thoughts. I must also say that I love your word choice. It's always a pleasure to read your stuff.

The horizon's a funny place. It's there. You can see it. But you can't put your finger on it. You can't ever get there. Imagine the futility of running to the horizon, seeing if you can catch up to it, the place where lost thoughts and dreams sink into after you wake up. It's really something.

Beautiful, thoughtful, full of imagery and depth and soul. As usual =)

Any thought that is so deeply thought about as to make it rise ones throat and be almost uttered is not a thought that should be guilt-ridden....no one ever became happy or satisfied with ones self by keeping their mouth shut and butchering their thoughts into just painful lumps in their stomachs....I've said my piece haha.
Wonderful write.

Yes, the things we want to say but never do
This is a nice piece, are you refering to a particular phrase
or just things in general that we don't say.
I like the subject since it's so universal and we all feel this at times
Nice job, bro

Great poem once again. We think about saying things. Sometimes we regret not saying something. Even regret what we are saying or said. Somtimes as we go through life, it's better not say nothing at all. I guess it's all how your perceive* it.
"guilt for even
briefly thinking
this phrase should be said."

I guess this could be my example.
Thanks you for sharing this.

Dude, you have said before we have similar outlooks when it comes to certain subjects...this almost reads like something I would have written and it is better than anything I could ever imagine writing...period...end of story

I love this visual, and this entire poem is very relatable. For some reason, as I read this, one constant phrase stuck in my mind-- "I love you." "These brave words"..."This phrase should be said." It remained on the tip of my tongue. There are so many words that go unspoken, tucked away in our little writing journals, our laptops, our thoughts... Ironically, this leaves me at a loss for words.

When you realize that other's opinion don't matter, that is when you have true freedom of thoughts, words & actions. Who cares who you offend?! Just say it!
