The Legend of Their Love

Long ago in the middle of the night.

A walk through the woods was their delight.

Though the moon did not shine so bright.

The clouds kept it covered all through the night.

They walked along side by side.

Up the path to the sky.

The view was dark and eerie.

Covered in heavy fog that hung so dreary.

They walked along the edge of the cliff.

Being careful not to slip.

The path so narrow he walked ahead.

With her behind, she walked slowly on the edge.

Footsteps apart no longer heard.

He stops, looks back and called to her.

The fog so thick it’s hard to hear and see.

He heard a faint scream, help me!

He hurriedly walked towards her voice.

As she cried, help me I can’t hold on.

He began to panic and stumbled around.

As he looked and looked she was nowhere to be found.

Finally, He touched something cold and damp.

Her hand on the rock tightly clamped.

He grabbed her hand, she slid down.

She screamed for him, until she hit the ground

Left on the ledge all alone.

There was no reason for him to go back home.

Tears filled his eyes and ran down his face.

He built him a tent and lived at this place.

When the fog had cleared and the moon was bright.

He walked down the ledge late that night.

He looked around and saw her lying there on the ground.

He ran to her and picked her up with a frown.

He held her tight the rest of that night, crying he could not stop.

When the sun came up he laid her in the ground and covered her up.

Before he could walk away, he laid a flower on her grave and he whispered I loved you.

He climbed back up to his ledge, where he had made a tent to live.

Dark and foggy nights he faintly hears her screams.

She always came to visit him in his late night dreams.

So warm and beautiful her hair flowed around him and tender was her voice.

Before she would leave she always whispered in his ear, “I love you too my dear!”

Years have passed since that night of him losing his love.

Though every night she comes to see him from somewhere up above.

The love between them still remains, though stronger.

Their passion for each other seems to burn much longer.

True love can not be severed you see.

No matter what form it takes it will always be.

Though stronger and more passionate it came to them.

Forever their love together, never will end.

A amazing tale of love. The description create a good vision of two people finding peace and happiness. I like the ending. Sometime all we have is good memories and dreams to hold on to. Thank you for the excellent poem.

Such beautiful words... Yet soo sad! True love never really dies does it. Reminds me a bit of the evanescence song "My immortal" I really enjoyed this. Thanks :)

You are quite the romantic, in the best possible way :-) I love how even though it becomes quite dark, there is still an innocence and purity about the the way the love is described as being unending and unbreakable. I feel like the tragedy only reinforces the bond between these two people, and I love how the last stanza sums it all up. The only critique I have is about the structure. The last stanzas are significantly longer than the earlier ones, and I feel as though it makes the poem a little unweildy toward the end.

There is a line from a movie that makes me cry everytime I watch it. "I don't know if life was greater than death, but love was more than either." I am a romantic at heart really. This story was well done. The connection between the two of them is inbetween your lines. So simple, but multi-layered in meanings. I enjoyed it very much. :) Love is so powerful. It is tied to each emotion we have, you just have to look closely at them. Very nice wite. :)
