Prayer to Boreas for a Safe Winter

Prayer to Boreas for a Safe Winter

A Poem by Hypnos

I pray to Boreas, god of the shrill north wind,
god of the winter; from your glacial halls
in the heights of Thrace you come to us each year,
bringing the bitter chill, the knife-sharp sleet,
the shivering cold, the blinding white skies.
Father of slim-ankled Khione, maid of the snows
whose hand it is that frosts the tender grasses,
I call to you. O Boreas of the violet wings,
grant to us a season mild and free of harm,
bringer of the gales of winter, grant to us
a season safe. Ward us as we walk the black ice,
keep us from the storm, O Boreas, I pray to you.

It's very interesting how you worded this piece. The way you describe the winter and snow actually brings it to life. I don't know many Greek gods, so this was really interesting. I enjoyed it.

Thank you very much.
This is a great poem, very reminiscent of Homer's genius. I love how you employ the Greek gods into your poetry...it adds a very unique taste to it. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this poem.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. Please take a look at some of the other prayers.

Sure. They seem really interesting.
I would certainly pray to Boreas, if I thought he would heed me. The blue northers we get in Texas can drop the temperato=ure 30 degrees in less than an hour.
