The Old Hammock In The Backyard

The old hammock is a solace for a grieving soul

Cushions the pain that flows

When her eyes open to meet the day,

and close to meet the night, her body pressed

against the hammock, she dreams of him

Each moment of her life is a recollection of remembrance

Sun kissed days bring Butterfly kisses from his lips of love

Dew drops from the weeping willow tree touch her sweet

misty tears as she lays underneath on the old hammock

She watches the silken blue sky fade into another stary night

The wind breathes his history upon this land

Existence of happiness lingers in the air

Shadows of their time together develops into beautiful color

Although he's gone, it's as if he still there

Eyes see him everywhere, and the ache in her heart lightens

with inexpressible joy

Holding onto his love baths her in sanity

The old hammock brings pleasurable moments

Laughter echos through the backyard

Wrapped in his arms, swaying back and forth spending time together

Making up after accusations lashed at one another

Regain of loving feelings restored

Their story is weaved into the net of the old hammock

The breath in her lungs burn for release

Life without him is hopelessly lonely

When her eyes open to meet the day,

and closes to meet the night she dreams of him and her

laying in the hammock in their backyard

It's a beautiful poem. A story of two lovers that used to spend time together or maybe only once, in this old hammock. It's love as pure as it should be, but then there is this grey cloud the overshadows it because he must have left. It seems to me though, that he isn't gone for good and that she longs for the day when they can lay in the old hammock again. Very good.

You are welcome
This piece touched me. I have an old hammock stretched between two massive pecan trees in my yard and it is my place to relax and reflect on the beauty that surrounds me. I love looking up through the branches and seeing the blue sky peek through. Thank you for writing this as it brought me back to my favorite spot.

My pleasure
A comfy place to rest, enjoy the elements and think. And if those moments contain a bit of tender romance, I think I'd want to lay there till first snowfall. (Or maybe a tornado)

Thanks, you always leave me with a smile at your words!
what i think is that this is an imagery filled piece that brought me back...not to a romantic love, but to the place i love most. Ryegate, VT...

used to go there for 2 months every summer when i was a kid in NY.
we stayed at this big farmhouse...the Guttersons. And on the porch that wrapped around the entire place, there was this big hammock...i used to lie in it and watch the cows in the pasture across the road...so serene, so beautiful...you took me back there, although i felt the sadness of losing a loved one too, i lost a place loved.

We hold onto something from those we've lost and cherish it like nothing else. A very sad but totally wonderful write. I enjoyed this.

Thanks!
"Life without him is hopelessly lonely" was a line that stood out for me because I think anyone with a significant other or even a child, etc, can relate to it most of all. But what I also come away with from this poem is memories are built and held onto forever even long after those we love have departed.

Thank you!
We hold onto memories of those who are no longer with us...it brings pain but it keeps them alive too. Very nicely done.
