Childhood Into Adulthood no return

Childhood Into Adulthood no return

A Poem by KATHY SUE SILLS
"

A young boy cannot wait to grow older!

"

Numbers added to an age,

add years to a life.

Jovial teen anticipates adulthood.

Kaleidoscope dreams in mirror of hopes,

no rules to abide by and partying time

flow in the brain in symmetrical patterns.

Bills are essential in the adult world.

Capsule of remorse runs through a weary mind,

longing to travel back in time where life was

easier and fun. Childhood episodes of his life

play like re-runs on a t.v. show. Face now creased with lines of regrets, eyes tear up in disbelief. He misses his childhood.

Paralysis of thoughts leave him stranded in the past, back in his childhood room of adolescents where batman and robin was his heros. Comic books and pictures of naked ladies hidden under his mattress for his eyes only.

He packs his suitcase.

Journeys back to his childhood home.

He visulizes his dad in his lazy chair, pipe in mouth. His mom knitting a blaket, listening to the evening news. It's an optical illusion of happier days.

Combination of emotions collide. Mom meets him at the door with a smile and hug. Dad meets him with open arms and says, "Son, I told you that you would miss these days."

This is amazing writing! It shows such a depth of understanding of the journey from childhood to adulthood, the headlong rush and then the wistful regret that we didn't take our time along the way. Lovely reflection on life!

The poem is very true. I traveled to 40 countries. And ended 5 mile from my Grandparent old house. Sometime hard to escape home. When the desired age come. The days of youth is always sweeter. Thank you for a excellent poem.

Interesting to say the least. I really like how it all comes together, and you did a great job expressing the story. Keep it up.
