52 Pick-Up

52 Pick-Up

A Poem by Christine

If you’ve ever

built a card castle,

you know

what an impossible frustration

it is

knowing

you won't be able

to complete it

successfully

on the first try

And if you’ve ever been devastated

you know what it means

to understate

your mental state

when you’ve built a castle of 51 cards

only to ruin it with the king of hearts.

You’ll watch them all collapse,

with an almost audible shuffle

and you might let out an apathetic sigh

to compensate for the silence

and you’ll most defiantly insist

that it wasn’t a big deal anyway

and never was.

If only you didn’t breathe so heavily.

Wow...This was like getting hit by a bus I never saw coming.
Just when you think everything is under control...
excellent work.
