dance with me

dance with me

A Poem by Karen D Reeves

don't hold me back

or hold me down

get in my way

i'll figure how to go around

you

when it comes to what i want

and deserve

i will have the last word

i don't care who you think

i am

frame me anyway you want

but keep it to yourself

i will not hand you the baton

in a relay race

that does not exist

it's a marathon, honey

and i suggest

you stay in your lane

and outta mine

and we'll get along fine

i would never tell you

what dreams to hold

and which to let go

or that it's time

to sit down now

while i dance

there's room on the floor

for all of us

and it's more fun

that way

anyway

so let's both cut the smack

and do it

dance with me
