Happy Delirium

Happy Delirium

A Poem by Kristin Lee
"

What truly lies within the heart

"

Trapped in this bright and shiny dome

Perpetually swimming up stream

Through countless rungs of plastic posers

Their sharp stares slice right to the quick.

There is no rest for the wicked in this war

Sleep is a novelty long denied

So daydreams are where we hide

Stolen moments of happy delirium

Free from the castigations

Society has carved into our flesh

Avoiding the false prophesies

The plastic posers deem absolute truth

Their bold lies foretelling false sins

Of the worlds wicked and uncouth.

As heavy lids laced with tiny blue veins

Flutter their way to happiness

I have to wonder…

Are we really wicked?

Or are we posers too?

Let that be our greatest secret

And the way we’ll win this war

For only these stolen moments of happy delirium

Will ever know, what truly lies at our core.

I love when there are questions in an amazing poem such as yours but most of the time I cant quite answer them... ha. I loved it all, the last stanza was the jackpot for me.

"Let that be our greatest secret
And the way we’ll win this war
For only these stolen moments of happy delirium
Will ever know, what truly lies at our core."

Thought this was amazingly well written. Well done, as always!

For me, the first and last stanzas in this piece were the true stars...you do a great job of opening with a strong "point" and closing on a strong note. I also enjoyed the questions..."are we really wicked?" being my favorite.

To know oneself...that is a difficult thing to fully achieve. It seems an easy enough idea, but in reality it can be the most difficult task of our lives. Thought provoking piece with a lot of good imagery and metaphorical significance.

Beware the boom for your delirium hits me like salt-spray caught on playful winds about the sea. A sea of plasticity bubbling and flooding until the horizon as we sit atop a crows nest in search of buoys of truth and understanding. Happiness captured in a spyglass set to weary eyelids. It lies there just off the bow shining in the sun. Like the great and philosophical island of your words adrift in the ocean of Writerscafe.org.

Well, I have been told that I am amusing, but I like the way you say it better ;)
Is there a pill for it or must one acquire happy delirium on their own....I think the nearest we can nuzzle up to that notion is in our poetry, but then again, we poets are a different breed. Other's would take our delirium insanity, those posers you speak of, they live in denial, I'm not sure which is worse. Much food for thought here Kristen, always an intriguing read from your pen.

i wish i knew what happy delirium was....i used to i think...but life makes us cynical...there are moments of hope...but overall...the way things are around us eventually have such an effect that they weigh us down...and it is harder to be optimistic ..and then there are we poets....who tell it like it is...we don't sugar coat...and you certainly didn't do that here...really insightful wording, making us ponder.

your poetry is so intelligent in what it brings to the table to challenge your readers.

Living an illusion is the best delirium there is. Even a cynic needs escapism whether it be in:

1. Daydreams
2. Poetry
3. Music
4. Art
5. Socializing

I think that the word poser is used around loosely because us humans like to experiment. Experimentation gives us the drive to grow as people. Highschool is a prime example of this. According to Sociology, humans divide into cliques to "fit in" society. Diversity, if you think about it, is insulting because tribes allow us to pursue our faith and beliefs instead of restriction.

"Will ever know, what truly lies at our core."

Subjectively, humanity is connected as a union. However, we are still separate entities. Therefore, the individual is the sole person who knows the truth. An outsider's perspective can only go so far.

CONCLUSION

I found this to be thought provoking. Well done.

I could use some happy delirium right now. Delirium is like a gas on the periodic table, you have to be in just the right place to capture it before it dissipates, but oh to have enjoyed its elixir is almost impossible to describe. You have done a lovely job penning that.
