The Girl with the Emerald Green Hair

The Girl with the Emerald Green Hair

A Chapter by Leah-Carla Gordone

Once upon a time
In a faraway place
There lived a little girl
Who was different from her race

All of them had purple hair
But hers was emerald green
And for this very reason
She was rarely ever seen

They kept her locked away
In a dungeon dark and black
They tried to break her spirit
And they tried to bend her back

But much to their surprise
She grew stronger by the day
They gave not bread
Nor water to her
Never did she sway

She blessed them in the morning
And prayed for them at night
For in her heart she knew that
One day they would see the light

But most of all, she believed
That she would never die
A little voice inside said, “You can fly!”

The king conducted visits
He charged a fancy dollar
To see the girl with emerald hair
They'd scream
They'd jeer and holler

They threw their stones
And picked their bones
And waved a nasty finger
They stayed for hours fascinated
How they loved to linger

The iron bars that held her
Barely kept her from their reach
But quiet stayed she
Never did she
Cry or give a screech

But most of all, she believed
That she would never die
A little voice inside said, “You can fly!”

One day the king announced
There’d be one final showing
For he had planned to kill the girl
The fiercest wind was blowing

The people marched procession-style
Up to the very crypt
But screams of disbelief rang out
Some felt that they'd been gypped

For gazing in they saw no girl
No emerald hair did shine
The peoplethey began to cry
Their childrenthey did whine

None could explain the mystery
The kinghe was dumbfounded
The purple-locked people
Were confused and most astounded

But word spread fast that she believed
She’d never die
Some heard that she believed
That she could fly!

And every now and then
An emerald bird does circle ’round them
The people marvel, gasp and gaze
Into the sky beyond them

For ne’er a bird did visit them
But now they tell the story
The little girl with emerald hair
Has risen to her glory!

I've never been much of a poetry-fan, but this one was absolutely awesome! =D I loved it, great flow (unlike most I've read actually >_> can't figure out how the words even fit together with a couple I've seen), a very unique idea that also shows how people dislike difference! 10 STARS!!
