Wide awake

Wide awake

A Poem by Lilaa

Memories echo through
these beige walls ,fluorescent
lights wrapping themselves in the
warmth of the tiny dust
particles gently and
elegantly making their way
across this deserted room

I am here, alone with no
hands to hold, no lips to
kiss and no eyes to gaze at
oh how your eyes were
like shooting stars, so
precious and real

As I pour myself another
glass of red wine, I
become one with myself,
finally gazing at my reflection
through the glass of my wine
and understanding that I am
human and I will be let down
by the ones who promised
to stay, the ones who held
my hand half way and let go
the moment I needed them

This is life, memories are what
keeps us alive, the journey
of overcoming a break up
enhances my awareness,
I am wide awake now.

Catch a breath... life happens to everyone. Mostly we survive but it takes time to reach again.

Sometimes those aching hours in the middle of the night can be strangely comforting......but it takes a while to get there.

Bleeding our thoughts on paper until they make sense is always worthwhile therapy....:)

Thank you for sharing.

This is just too real. Honestly, all of those stanzas provided a whole entire feel to me. We often get brought down by the people we thought would be there for us. But when we sit and relax; drinking our drinks, we realize that they didn't matter anyway. This poem left me speechless.
