On Goodbyes

On Goodbyes

A Poem by LuciDxInsanitY

So many a time, so many sad whispers of regret

Lost in the dark nooks of this mirrored hall

We identify as our relationship

Half chanced glimpses of unbridled smiles haunt us

Smarting sharply all the more the contradiction of current contrast

It brings every turned back easier, the steps away from you, stronger

I’ll profess to you this, as it’ll always stay the same

Not anger, nor remorse or its bitter companion

Crippled love, could take what I first felt for you away

Change tore through us nevertheless, surges of fault

Rippled and weaved, squirmed and writhing

Rearing its head our way, brought us to our knees

When at last we stood, it was only to find ourselves distanced

We’ve broken each other’s hearts so many times

And now there is a corner of my heart turned to so much dust

Soft apologies and sheepish smiles just could not fix any longer

Leaving all that remains a bleak desert of confusion and longing

But you’re gone, and I wouldn’t go back if I could

Some wounds father time refuses to heal

A lesson learned, marked on a scarred page of my life

I hope all the best for you; I hope you can learn to love again

I hope in time, this’ll fade to simple history; I have to let you go

Move on; fling these tears like a battered rag

Regret with a rain check can only bring more pain

Good bye
