Choosing to see the Heroes.

Choosing to see the Heroes.

A Poem by lyss

He's so depressing sometimes.

Makes me want to block my ears

With beeswax like the sailors of old.

Is it so hard to ask

To stay innocent,

Happy,

blissfully ignorant,

of the horrors of the world.

He makes me face the monsters under the bed,

Yet sometimes I ask myself,

Isn't that what heroes are for?

He makes the world seem bleak,

full of nothing but sadness and tragedy .

That's why I think he loves me,

I don't listen,

I've blocked my ears.

Instead I've chosen to see

The smiling faces,

The childish laughs of the innocent.

I may live in a world of hatred,

But I like my rose colored glasses,

I like waking up in the morning without feeling the pressure of the lost souls of the world on my chest.

I chose to be Happy and so should You....

I loved the imagery from the Odyssey here, replicating the dark and seductive nature of negativity. The ease with which one can accept the darkness of the world, juxtaposed with their difficulty in seeing the light. The exploration of love, through opposition, and each person widening the other's views, to encompass the whole world. Allowing one too peek out from beneath their rose tinted glasses and another to remove their blindfold and look into the rays of the sun.

I agree with the logic of your poem. Can't allow the bad things to destroy our hope and dreams. I like the above lines. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
