Magpie

Magpie

A Poem by Gerald Parker

Slicked back
like a spiv,
smirks a little,
enjoys his bad reputation,

sports plump belly
in black and white frock-coat,
open at front,
nods and bows for the crowd,
flash of blue satin;

hands behind back,
struts awkwardly
on parade,
in his banana republic.

Great image here! There are many magpies about, enjoying their bad rep! Seems like it's the only way to get attention these days. Enjoyed the poem.

Thanks for commenting, Tom.
Did you know they are crafty fisherbirds too, they drag a piece of food along the waters edge of the pond enticing the fish to come up .... i don't like them , but i will admit they are clever!

yes, a bird...but more human than that...awkwardly strutting thinking he is all that...
wants to be noticed even if it is for being bad...i am so surprised there are no reviews on these pieces...some of the best poems i have read on here.

There's not much to tell. I read a lot of poetry and I read my own poetry regularly. I hope other people read it and derive as much pleasure out of it as I do. My output is small, about 110 poems as I.. more..
