A Story by Jennifer

People of Earth?

"

A boulder was traveling in space. It had traveled from the gates of infinity. There was no way to trace where it had come from it had traveled for so long. The meteor had been drifting quite calmly at a slow speed. It was as though there were no obstacles or debris. However, a current in space had caught the boulder in its grasp.

It floated in the current. After a while, the meteor headed from the sea of rocks that were circling a blue planet. It went in an opposite direction toward a planet it had been orbiting around. The slow pace that it had before was gone. Faster and faster it headed toward the planet. The air grew hotter and started to burn the meteor.

Apparently, the planet had a self defense mechanism. A tough battle ensued. A net of fire gripped at the meteor as it tore at the planets atmosphere. The atmosphere lost grip of the huge rock. The meteor struck the planet back.

The ground rose up around the beast. A ball of fire flew above. A tsunami of smoke and debris raced away from the collision. The wave was hot and there was no escape. Anything in the path was wiped out. Anything that would adapt this heat wave was lucky to survive.

The creatures that remain stood up and shook the ash from their body. The game of survival was on. Their throats were parched and they must go on a journey for water. They were hungry and were to search for food. What was to come next was far from their minds.

The planet grew cold due to the lack of heat from the light. Everything that was grey and blackened had turned white.

Smoke had risen to the sky and blacked out the sun. This was the beginning of the planet being taken over by a virus. It had been defeated and was now being punished. The atmosphere that it had tried to defend itself with had trapped the smoke inside.

The smoke took an eternity to clear. Many creatures perished. They either suffocated or froze to death. Some had adapted to change and moved on. A terrestrial life form was about to emerge and make more changes to this planet. They seemed to come out of nowhere.

From within the crater, crawled these organisms. The terrestrial forms of life sifted through the destruction. They morphed into different types of species. They took on whatever form they could to survive the changes that their transportation had caused. A new species was living on the planet.

As the species developed, they had forgotten where they had come from and why. Even after leaving graffiti of their time line, nothing could be remembered. The reason of being had been forgotten. Fear had settled into their minds.

The land they had roamed was unnatural. It frightened them. The ground shifted and it was the last time they would be alive. Something out of the ordinary that was seen was some cosmic force that was unknown. A belief of a higher being had come into play. Everything had become taboo.

Many changes took place. Belief had been changed into different forms and interrupted in many different ways. What was wrong was right and what was right was wrong. The thought of the end for some reason was always present.

Speak of the past had become forbidden. The past was not even known of. If it was found, it was a sin to speak of it. The answer how they came to be was either right or wrong. The topic caused fear.

The beings were afraid of what the end would be. Especially of what would fall from the sky. This had been long forgotten. Who they were and why were they there? Little did they understand, there were visitors that were swinging by for a visit.

Extraterrestrial seemed really strange and frightening. They debated on whether it was fact or fiction. Anything from the sky caused destruction. However, they found them quite useful.

The rocks from the sky were turned into weapons and other objects. Some were collected and sold as mementos of what could happen. Change could happen again at any given moment.

The one that brought them their was looked at in awe. Was this what caused extinction of animals they never got to see? When will it happen again?

They gazed upon the boulder for some kind of answer. They took pieces of it. People gathered around it and chanted at it. Some suspected that this definitely brought life to an end as well as brought new life. Materials had been found on it that were once living at another place.

By now, things had changed a great deal. They had been there long enough to wear out of their resources. Another type of resource had to be found and used. The beings were here in a game of survival.

They had found that there were indeed other planets out there. Explorers had packed up their things and left the planet and find something new. They were about to be awakened.

After a long journey, they made it to a planet that was similar to theirs. It was so similar; they found beings that were just like them. They were shocked to see them there. At this point, they were unwelcome and had to go back home.

The planet they found had once been pristine. It had once been dirty just like their planet. They had blood relations here. This is where their ancestors had come from.

The question of where they came from had been answered. Their ancestors had caused pollution of this planet. They were so disruptive; they were forever banished from this land. They were to find their own place to ruin.

Immediately, they were ushered back to their ship and sent back home. The being on this planet looked at them like they were a virus.

The news was spread at home. Things were taken better care of to ensure that they could return and visit where they had come from.

What an interesting story! I'm guessing from the title that the Origin of man in your story was not on Earth? I'm sorry, but I found some of it a little confusing...

" The beings were afraid of what the end would be. Especially of what would fall from the sky. This had been long forgotten. Who they were and why were they there? Little did they understand, there were visitors that were swinging by for a visit."

Was that a typo? Are you saying the men from that planet were getting a visit from aliens, or that aliens were coming to visit them?

" Extraterrestrial seemed really strange and frightening. They debated on whether it was fact or fiction. Anything from the sky caused destruction. However, they found them quite useful."

And here it seems like they were visitors, but the way you talk after it sounds like you mean mining materials from other worlds? I'm sorry, but I was a little confused by these parts.

Other than those couple things, I thought the story was very well done. I liked how you showed instead of told, especially the meteor. I could really see it in my mind's eye. Great job! :)
