Exeunt

Exeunt

A Poem by Scott H.
"

A Shakespearean stage direction in which more than one person leaves the stage

"

"Exeunt"

What would it mean

If I discovered today that

My time on this earth

Was now finite,

A countable span of lessening days

Descending slowly down to

That inescapable conclusion?

Would you find me despondant,

A weeping and wailing fool

Consumed with such regret,

Agrieved of the knowledge that

The last chapter in my book of days

Was apon me?

Or would it be a freeing thing,

A tiresome burden lifted

Leaving me to spend

The waning hours of my season

In reflective contemplation,

Remembering each falling leaf

As yet another cherished memory,

Another person's light touched,

Another warming ray of sun

To fall across my eyes -

Eyes bright and shining,

Welcoming and ready,

Full of peace?

Well done!

I like your choice of words and images.

I prefer to think I'd choose the freedom of contemplation and releasing the burdens 'left behind'. Good message that we could choose how we respond to the last few days of our life. My preference is peace!
