What is love?

What is love?

A Poem by Glee

I used to think that gay people were crazy

I used to think that open lovers were insane

I used to think that ordinary people were incapable of trust

I used to think fairytales were for dreamers

I used to think I would spend the rest of my life alone

But then I met you

And you opened up the door

Showed me I didn’t have to be afraid anymore

And I could come out finally and be like you

I’m the new me now

You made me a believer now

I believe in faith

I believe in life

I believe in love

I believe in fate

For this is the way things were meant to be

Just when I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life alone

Because nobody cared

Because nobody could love me for me

You opened the door

Showed me how to love again

Gave me hope

Made me feel worthy of your affection

And just like that I felt like a different person

Like a heavy burden had been lifted off of my shoulders

And for the first time in my life I knew what I was looking for

I’m the new me now

You made me a believer now

I believe in love

You changed my life forever

Yes, I had your love

But you also gave me something more

Something far more powerful

Something far more important

Self worth

Self confidence

Self respect

For I could now allow myself to be loved again

I could now look at the world in a different way

Through different eyes

Even when you’re long gone now

You granted me a gift, dear friend

You were my first

Perhaps I'll never see you again

Perhaps I will

Perhaps I’ll find someone else

Perhaps I won’t

But you will have changed me forever

Showed me what love is

And for that I’m grateful for

My guide

My rock

My angel

People seem to think they know what love is

What do they know?

What is love?

Who claims to know what love is?

It has no explanation

No precondition

Who claims to know what love is?

It has no definition

No formula

Who claims to know what love is?

It has no premonition

No limitation

Who claims to know what love is?

It can withstand the greatest storms

And stand through the strongest earthquakes

It can climb the highest mountains

And swim the deepest seas

It can cross the burning deserts

And pass the thickest woods

It can go through the deepest heartbreaks

And stand through the most trying temptations

It can withstand the deepest pain

And survive the most devastating wars

Love truly is blind

But those who find it can now see again

Just like me

I’m a believer now

I see far more clearly now

I’m much more spiritual now

I believe in love

I’m a survivor now

I see far more clearly now

I’m much stronger now

I'm far wiser now

I believe in life

I believe in love

Very insightful, it's such a wonderful feeling when you''re feeling love, more wonderful when it's returned. Nicely penned words on a deep emotion.

Well, you certainly summed it up, dear friend. Love is so powerful that, at times, I swear I can feel it swimming through the air. I can almost catch it on my tongue, like a snowflake. It's warm when I'm cold. It's calming when I'm stressed. It's rambunctious when I need to feel alive. Love is whatever we have, as human beings, that keeps us going. It doesn't have to be another human. I have felt love for my animals that has made me weep with the power of how I felt. I think we should fall in love every day, I mean, it feels good, doesn't it? I know I do. Everytime I look into that woman's eyes or hear her sweet voice, I fall in love all over again, every single day.

(If wishes were horses, beggars would ride. I'm still thinking on this one, Ray.)
All my best, G.
