For the Freedom

For the Freedom

A Poem by Rose of Gondor
"

I swear, every time I come back from seeing Les Mis I churn out a new poem...

"

Every man, every woman,

Every child,

Every beggar, everybody

Join their voice in a single song

Their voices are ringing

Their harmonies seamless

Distant drums beating along

The song of liberty and life

And each and every one of them

Stand tall and proud beneath the sky

For these are the fearless crusaders

Who lead the way to a better day

And they take to the street

With jubilant voices

Singing, dancing, shouting

“For the freedom,” they cried

And it spread from man

To woman, to child

Until every beggar, every orphan

Echoed the word with hope

And they marched into battle

The colors of their banner hoisted high

Caught between the morning breeze

Fluttering like butterfly wings

All through the night

Their hope burned on

And they shouted to the stars

“For the freedom,” they cried

And upon the dawn when the sun

Arose once more

They sang on in their battlefield

Clanging of swords their accompaniment

“For the freedom,” their battle cry

Still ringing through the night

Even when the world seemed darkest

And the battle hopeless

“For the freedom,” still they sang

Even when all was done and gone

When blood watered the street

And the soldiers of liberty lay broken

“For the freedom,” they whispered

Speaking with their last breath

But even when they have gone

That breath remains

It blows through the wind

Dancing on the breeze,

Whistling between the trees

Whispering of what could have been

Whispering of a place that

All long to see

Stirring up the belief that

Always, hope will remain

And the people rise up

To join the crusade

To take up the banner of the sun

To fight for a noble cause

“For the freedom,” they cried

Their song never dying

Spreading from street

To town, to city

And every man, every woman,

Every child,

Every beggar, everybody

Raise their voice to sing a single song

“For the freedom, “ their voices are ringing

Their harmonies seamless

Distant drums beating along

The song of liberty and life
