Hide it deep in the recesses of your soul because it's not about you and it shouldn't be.

Stare into the distance

Pretend you're not crying

Or that you're allergic to everything

Force your voice past the lump in your throat

Swallow the tears and try not to choke

Breathe it all in and don't tremble under the weight

Hold it in your heart and just let it sit

Because it's not about you

You're not important enough, you never are

There are always someone who's hurting more

And so you don't cry

Instead you comfort

Instead you smile

Instead you offer encouraging words

And you hold them as they sob

And you want to cry too

But you're not important

And you're the only one who can help

Author's Note

There's a thing that's happening and people that are hurt by it. I guess I'm sad too--but I can't cry. I keep wanting to, and my eyes sting, and I feel the tears coming up and my voice is all choked and stuff but then I swallow it. I push it back. I smile and I laugh and I joke as if nothing's happened. I hold my friends and talk to them and distract them even though we all know none of us believe in it. I know what I am, what I understand, and I know what I can't be because of that understanding. Still, I just want one day to cry on my own. One day to not be strong.

Stop going over every single thing that's awesome to cover in a poem, you're leaving me without ideas. :P
So true, I agree with everything.
I think that the reason this is done, is to keep the world of people from going insane and giving in to the feelings. Also to maintain dignity, if you like that sort of thing.
