the company we keep

the company we keep

A Poem by Kara Emily Krantz

I want to surround myself with strong, soulful people.

People who use words like 'goodness' and 'truth' in

everyday conversation.

Individuals who believe that integrity is not a matter of pride

but of purpose

and what we do when no one is watching

defines who we are.

I need those who not only understand that life

is filled with music

(but hear it, too):

the sweet soft sounds of the soul.

This is what keeps them breathing

(their hearts beating)

and when they hug me...

I feel a little closer

to the Truth.

I want people who smile even when there is pain

and who attribute the rain

to the pursuit of the colors

within the earth.

Individuals of character and mirth

who laugh from deep inside their selves.

I want to be near people who believe in letting go

(in letting feelings show)

and who will never compromise the beauty

that their hearts

only know.

So if you sit beside my hearth

I will light this fire

(for you and me)

For I wish to surround myself

with Authenticity.

Forgive me

if I take your hand

and press it to my palm.

For your beauty is the balm

my soul has been seeking.

In your words there is found a rare quality few people today possess. Smile and the whole world around you smiles. Lift a weary soul with just a word...mend a heart with just a touch. Ty for such an inspiring piece of writing

Well, it seems as if you have set some pretty decent goals. I think that each and every human being desires these things, but somehow they don't know it because they cover it up by trying to become someone else. This is very ambitious and straight-forward, yet it seems joyful and fun. Great poem. Much kudos.

I have to admit that I found your page by way of Jill's comment box. I don't want to be a Cafe groupy but I've learned that the folks I admire here have remarkable friends.
This is the first work of your's that I've read and I cannot believe how it captures what must be the common desire that brought (and keeps) most of us here. This is beautiful and truly inspired.

Awwww !
For I wish to surround myself

with Authenticity.
This is such pure sentiment, pure thinking, clean
thinking and then we run into the every day slob who
curses, flirts, cheats, steals, leaving the decent person
filled with loathing and sadness.
Is there a happy medium ? Is there truth ? Of course, we
find it in the soul of the writer. Honest expression tells us
where we find truth.
This poem is probably the most inspirational piece that I
have ever read. We find many articles on truth, honesty and
justice, but in this piece I find it all coming from the heart.

Congratulations ! Beautiful story in poetry .

Wow, what a excellent poem. One that put a huge smile on my face and in my heart. If only everyone looked at everything the way you do we would have a peaceful world. This truely was a beautiful poem. I could just read it over and over. I'll be looking to reading your other writings b/c if they are anything as good as this one then they are well worth the read.

Oh wow! This poem would lift hearts even if they were at rock bottom. A touching and well written piece that just flowed through me and made me smile. A wonderful piece that should be shared with the world! A poem that should be posted in magazines and read on Oprah. Just a masterpiece. I'm already making my friend come and read this. Truly a great work and you really know how to pick your words because they are perfect.

A beautiful intelligent piece of prose, I loved it for the way it flows and for the points made. I hope you find friends who have these qualities. I love a line that Helen Hunt has in *As good as it gets* ....
"I don't want to be around people who make me feel bad about myself"
Cheers Kara,

Simply beautiful. What wonderful spirits you speak of surrounding yourself with.
For I wish to surround myself with authenticity
There is a belief among the Olde Norse that when your time comes the three Narnes (Fates) will hold the tapestry of your life which they wove from the thread given to them by the Mother Goddess Frig. The sisters three will read the weaving of the patterns of the colours and patterns of the threads against the life you lead to judge how well you matched the tapestry. This is how you will be judged in the end; were you true to yourself and your path. Did you take the threads you were given and weave them in patterns and colours true to you? I quite like that tale. Though not always easy I strive for it and I look to be with people who also strive for it.
What a lovley write Kara
I should like to sit beside you at your hearth
