the company we keep

the company we keep

A Poem by Kara Emily Krantz

I want to surround myself with strong, soulful people.

People who use words like 'goodness' and 'truth' in

everyday conversation.

Individuals who believe that integrity is not a matter of pride

but of purpose

and what we do when no one is watching

defines who we are.

I need those who not only understand that life

is filled with music

(but hear it, too):

the sweet soft sounds of the soul.

This is what keeps them breathing

(their hearts beating)

and when they hug me...

I feel a little closer

to the Truth.

I want people who smile even when there is pain

and who attribute the rain

to the pursuit of the colors

within the earth.

Individuals of character and mirth

who laugh from deep inside their selves.

I want to be near people who believe in letting go

(in letting feelings show)

and who will never compromise the beauty

that their hearts

only know.

So if you sit beside my hearth

I will light this fire

(for you and me)

For I wish to surround myself

with Authenticity.

Forgive me

if I take your hand

and press it to my palm.

For your beauty is the balm

my soul has been seeking.

this is what everyone really should desire and you say it well. for by knowing such individuals we learn to be kind to ourselves as well and we place those impalements on ourselves to live up to that sort of thing. it is healthy human interaction.

to join you there with so many others who now know
the fulfilling direction we should all go
would be trying to care as you have so clearly shown
i will go there now in my dreams because it now seems
it is the best my for me to let my memory care for me

This is beautiful....filled with hope and joyful expectation. I truly enjoy these kind of people and I try every day to be this way myself. Cause even if no one else is there, I'm there, and I have to live with me, and the me I want to be is an honest person I can trust. More of a comment than a review, but the only way I know to express how much it moved me. Very nice work !!

I find that the people I hang with all are Christians and we have a lot in common..except for my husband..he is one hard nut to crack..I can see god in this and also a personal relationship...nice write..keep them coming..God bless..Valentine

This is a beautiful invitational poem. I, too, want these things. This life is too short to accept any less. Your last two lines are very touching. I do believe that it is our connection with other souls which heal us. Bravo!

It's poems like this that give me hope, because these people you write of exist...people unafraid to laugh at themselves, who know that giving is a gift. Beautiful. Rain..

Oh my what an inspirational and hope positive ... I agree on so many level here its as if you also spoke for me... I think all the sound of nature and man are like music, there is some you mat not like but others give you peace and serenity... and do i believe in letting go of what you can't change and move on to what still lies ahead... I always try to bring smile to those who are in turmoil cause laughing is always the best medicine... and I think you must laugh at yourself if you are going to laugh at others cause we are human and we error... This is so uplifting on many levels... you can take my hand anytime for i am with you in the kind of world we need. Going in my favs and on my page.

Not to sound like a d****e, but I really like the wording of each stanza. So carefully placed and so emotionally packed. I wish we could all be a little more like this.
