The Letter

Same girl, same story, same tears

Can you see the sadness in his eyes
Can you tell his happy words are lies
And when they say their final goodbyes
He goes home, lays down, and cries

Oh why couldn't they end up together
He thinks of her as they exchange a letter
In every way she made him better
Oh why couldn't they end up together?

They said goodbye before they said hello
There is still so much they will never know
He already felt extremely low
She made him happy, it was the killing blow

He has to move on, he has to be strong
But his heart is dying, it won't last long
He just wished he knew where it all went wrong
All he has left is this lonely song

Oh why couldn't they end up together
He thinks of her as they exchange a letter
In every way she made him better
So why couldn't they end up together?

Two year pass and finally he is back
There's no order left, it's all out of wack
Ruining things, he seems to have a knack
He smiled for two years, it's starting to crack

He wants to pick up pieces, give his soul a lift
But where his heart was, there's now only a rift
He thought that for once he had felt his luck shift
Cause he recognized her for what she was: a gift

So why couldn't we end up together
I think of you daily in our letter
In every single way you made me better
Oh why couldn't we end up together?

Author's Note

These two years have not happened yet, they are the years saved away for my mission for my church. The girl described in my poems is my best friend and we are going to be writing each other over those two years hopefully... Now that she knows my feelings, that might not be the case anymore though.. Hope you enjoy the poem anyway
