Espionage

Espionage

A Poem by William
"

enemies are only what we make them.

"

i’m a sniper on a rooftop
taking potshots at a broken heart.
you’re a spy, undercover
with nothing to lose from the start.
i stand there, undiscovered
and watch the girl with the crooked smile,
a goddess incognito,
she’s the
one.

the setting is a club.
we dance around each other,
covertly, calculating.
catlike and circling.
learning each other,
discerning each other.
in your handshake
i feel your heart beat
one
two.

your dress,
white, almost sheer,
fluttered around you as you spun.
you looked so innocent.
i could feel you breathe,
heave,
scared, exhilarated.
we move
like a waltz,
but far faster.
one
two
three.

i knew
who and what you were.
my enemy,
my lover.
we hit the floor,
i’ll have you another time.
i captured your heart,
you stole my life.
you’re a thief and an angel.
the days and days desert us,
one
two
three
four.

you lay with me,
a white lily in your hair.
you say, ‘stay with me.’
‘forever’ i lie.
time is soft and sweet,
on our last day.
the hours flash by:
one
two
three
four
five.

i say ‘meet me at six.’
we exchange kisses and goodbyes.
as you leave,
i see you for the last time.
and time, time, time goes by,
i still wait for you.
my mind and time conflict,
but i know you are gone,
as the lonely clock chimes
one
two
three
four
five
six.

‘she was terminated.’
over without a fight.
well, i’m back on the streets tonight,
i light the fuse.
i hope they know the demon they created,
has nothing to lose,
and taste for violence and vengeance.
it’s funny how life can change in
one
two
three
four
five
six
seven
days.

Captivating write! I love these lines, "we dance around each other, covertly, calculating. catlike and circling." You are definitely one to watch and to think you say you only just started writing poetry. Welcome to the Writer's Cafe.

This is also involving and good, drawing us in to the romance. I'm particularly taken with the first stanza, the imagery is just delectable. The carrying over of the count, each verse bringing us a new number. Eventually clarified as days; its really striking, helps place us in the action, involve us in the timeline.
