Blind poet

Blind poet

A Poem by Soren

In your blindness you can see

the world's veracity in transparency

You speak beauty through your poetry

of wars gory and bloody, of glory and loyalty

visions of all the god's disparity and vanity

Sightless eyes of empathy reveal life's inequity

with ears that hear hypocrisy in total clarity

all the glee and agony of society

its charity, tranquility and brutality

a gentle breeze of mercy then the storm's calamity

Things that are and aren't but shouldn't and should be

love, peace, harmony, savagery and misery

of death and immortality

despair, pain and prosperity

venality and abject poverty

sensuality, immorality, depravity

honesty, mendacity, insincerity

insanity, inhumanity, reality

Now rest o poet buried in lyrical totality

Remarkable in its musicality. A rare find these days and so well presented.

Oh to be blind in this absolutely contradictory world! It is as if everything positive is canceled by equal amounts of negative. It would certainly leave the blind poet befuddled in the face of the glory and the tragedy. In the end, tranquility is welcomed. A very thoughtful poem, dear Soren and one that shakes up the reader a bit and compels us to question it all. Kudos!

Thank you so much Miss Sharon I appreciate your most kind comments.
Old Homer saw quite a lot for a blind guy. As I understand it now, the poems attributed to him were written by several wandering poets. How they all came to be known as Homer I do not know.

Thanks john as I understand it, it came from watching the Simpsons on TV.
It's only life. But life entails the good with the bad. We poets are observers and painters of life in all its shame and glory but far from being blind I think it falls upon the poet to be the eyes, ears and often, the conscience, of society. The most important thing a poet can be able do then is to expand his perspective or narrow his focus. Like a photographer choosing which scene to represent, the poet takes an expository line from life to illuminate. None can paint the mural alone, we must each add our oeuvre to the mosaic. Will the finished art be impressionistic or realism? Perhaps the idea is abstract. But a poet can't be defined equally by anything less. It certainly is a condition and not a profession as Frost observed. Perhaps the poet will wear rose colored glasses at some point or have tear stained eyes at another. It's only life. I enjoyed the read; the rapid fire descriptions and alliteration give the piece almost a hip-hop lyric feel. Very nicely rendered, F.

Nothing wrong with scribbles.
I like how this goes back and forth 'tween the positive and negative....opposites for everything and for every feeling. And I suppose God has to have some vanity in him...
man is a conglomeration of all of it.
And poets? are they prophets? gods? Just messengers?
Who knows...this is a really good write, Soren.
