Accepting The Terms

A Chapter by therisa
"

Coming to understand my relationship, with my mom.

"
A simple gesture
With a barely spoken word
Turning of the head
Before walking away
In pain.

Washing away
A lifetime
Of love
And understanding.

As love is
Replaced by
Shame and guilt
In your eyes.

When you look
At me.

Blaming yourself
For something
Beyond mortal control
In having
A trans-daughter.

Instead of
The expected son
You believed
True.

Nothing has changed
As I am
Still your child.

Just how
I express myself
To world
At large.

Something
You'll never accept
No matter
How long
You live.

For that
I pity you.

The simplest of gestures can be the most devastating - a shrug - a raised eyebrow - a look - or even silence - could all be as devastating as the thumbs up 'death sign' at the Roman Coliseum (many think it was a thumbs down but the thumbs down indicated swords down).
Closing the mind as appears happened here for whatever reason is probably the loudest door slam of all.
This was a hard read so the write must have been exponentially harder dear heart.
