Chapter one- GutsA Chapter by Stef OutsidersChapter one Guts October 31st, Halloween. My favourite time of the year. You get to dress up and hide behind a mask. It's the only time I may adventure further than my front garden. After so many attempts I haven't succeeded yet. I sat here on my wall with my friends who are no ordinary friends; they are outsiders like me. We did not have to wear silly costumes or masks, our style in clothing already did that for us. We wear black, can you guess what we are? Yes Goths and we are very fond of the colour black with a touch off purple or red too. And when were feeling outrageous, you might see some neon colours added in there. Normally we leave the trick or treating to the little kids but my best friend, Kane, had all of a sudden gained a sweet tooth. He hate's anything that is sweet. "Right guys, whose house are we going to first?" He said rubbing his hands together with a devious look upon his face. Under all that make up, he's the most polite Goth you'll ever meet and I mean ever. But I really don't know what's got into him tonight. "Kane you hate sweets!" His sister Jazz reminded him and who were astonished by her brother's change in behaviour. "And, I'm bored." He said. "Bored off sitting here, watching everyone else having fun. I want to see how much candy we can get and steal a few pumpkins too!" "Kane, no," Jazz said seriously. She passed him a narrowed look and tried to figure out his game. "Don't give me that look, you cannot tell me you do not get bored either," Jazz's mouth fell open in offense as I was sitting here listening. But I wasn't offended, this was to be expected. Kane’s devious plans were crumbled by his big sister; the level headed one of us three. “Hey Jazz, don’t be so hard. He’s right. Things need to change,” I said, nervously biting my lip. I jumped off my garden wall that surrounded my home. I took a deep breath and inch my way forward onto the public path. Jazz watched nervously as did kane, her mouth fell even more open by my new found confidence. But it wasn’t confidence that shifted my butt from the wall, it was guts. “Stef, isn’t this dangerous for you?” She said concerned. She did not need to be. “As long as you guys are with me, nothing is dangerous. I think I’ll be ok.” I smiled. Jazz and Kane came to my side and locked their arms into mine. “Ready,” They both said at the same time. I exhaled deeply, readying myself for what’s out there and this gutsy new me.
