Time of Love

Time of Love

A Poem by Willard Wells
"

Expiration

"

Everything seems to have an expiration date.

Love is no exception.

You see the change as the date gets close,

so no reason for a surprise.

Blame can be placed on everyone,

but in reality.

The time of love has expired.

For me that expiration date was my husbands passing. Now I just thank God for the memories. Valentine

Nice to know you had and have such great love for your husband. Thanks for stopping by
I love this poem. For its simplicity. For its ability to provoke thoughtful reflection. This is a topic I've often pondered...is there such a thing as 'happily ever after'? I don't think so...but that's just my story. Still, I see so many 'couples' that aren't in love...aren't happy. How sad to wake up every day next to someone that evokes nothing in your heart, and no butterflies in your tummy. No rush of heated desire through your veins. How sad to look into someone's eyes and see a icy, barren desert, where once a verdant pasture spread, filled with wildflowers and butterflies.

I'm not sure why it doesn't last anymore.
I read about couples who are in their 80's and 90's who have been married for much longer than I've been alive and still adore one another. Maybe we have too many distractions these days.

And thank you for stopping by and allowing me to ramble.
Looking at our country today, it would appear as though something has expired. Perhaps the "kind" in mankind!
