Lipstick on Your Collar

Lipstick on Your Collar

A Poem by Neva Flores Smith - Changefulstorm
"

You may be a poet who rings a bell that exists in my memory.............

"

You may be a poet who rings a bell that exists in my memory

Warms me with words from the fabric of your vision
But like lipstick on your collar, I have been left undefined
Likened to a host of lips that make no decision

The warmest heart will shine after a shower of adventure
Then slowly passes to pick up what it can and will
Imagining that elemental kisses will remain so discreet
Because on quick little feet they do softly steal

Hurt runs into the fields beyond, looking for what is stolen
While a downward rain touches on bright faces
You may be a poet who rings a bell in my memories
But your collar does not hold my lipstick’s traces

Inside of your dreams there is a wide sea holding grace
It will give you back the one whom you love
Ring your bell into shadows of her sweet memory
I pray she hears you, that your love is enough

I love this poem for many a reason, not for the metaphor for which Muse saw but for what I read into it. I see a man sitting behind his keyboard, typing away words of love, words of yesterdays gone by. For things he has let slip through his fingers if only he would give up something in order to retrieve what has matter the most. Always has and always will.

She hears you and I pray she listens. Her love might be enough but does she have the strength to endure it? What an awesome write Neva, you too continue to get better and better...!

This line grabbed me and when it did it felt as though it was for someone, or some specific situation, "You may be a poet who rings a bell in my memories
But your collar does not hold my lipstick’s traces." Whether I am correct or not... it felt like a "Touche!'" to me.

A passionate and amazing poem. Full of feelings and unspoken truths. The metaphors and descriptions are wonderful. A dark and lovely poem all in all. :)

I am sorry Neva ...I just saw these now...am tryin to write back to all the requests aplenty from my friends...
I am sorry I couldn't write you sooner...to tell you that you have put up a great work of yours here.
This will appeal to every male poet on the site and make them feel as if you wrote it exclusively for them
Its got style and a unique "just for you" invisible tag.
Thx for sharing this lovely peom of yours.

Yes I agree one's love is enough to make a good point. Well done Neva.

Hm, I really don't know what to say about this. Much of your imagery confuses me, sometimes to the point where I lose what point you were trying to make in the first place. Should I call this heartbreaking? I don't know. I really don't know.

Your writing is so profound Neva. It makes me feel like my own is simplistic. For me as I read this it conjured up suggestions that there were three people involved; those being the male, a female on the scene knowing she isn't the right one and a second female who is no longer there but is obtainable with effort.
I also like the subtle touch of the red font. Very clever.

This is probably amongst my favroites of your works. Intriguing and relateable in a way, I can feel the thoughts and emotions when I read it. Great job, keep it up
