Chapter (7) THE GOBBOLIT

Chapter (7) THE GOBBOLIT

A Chapter by MAD ENGLISHMAN

THE GOBBOLIT

The Gobbolit is a really horrid beast,

He likes nothing more, than to drink and to feast.

He eats and he drinks from morning ‘til night,

He ate ‘til his trousers became really tight.

He ate a tree from the wood high up on the hill,

then he ate some sheep, but was hungry still.

The village pond he drained in a minute,

He drank it all down with the fishes still in it.

He ate all the crops and the fruit on the trees,

he ate all the honey and the hives full of bees.

But the Gobbolit’s favourite was spaghetti on toast,

Of all of his foods he loved it the most.

Now Spaghetti is really the funniest thing,

It’s soft and squidgy and looks like string.

It grows in the wild and hangs from the trees.

In a land far away ‘cross the oceans and seas.

The Gobbolit grew, getting bigger each day,

And the people all wished that he’d go away.

So they built him a boat and gave him a map,

Then sent him off with a cheer and a clap.

The Gobbolit sailed on seas blue and green,

but the land of Spaghetti could never be seen.

Then one day as the sun had just started rising,

The Gobbolit saw something very surprising.

An Island so big had come into view

And the Gobbolit knew just what he must do.

So he sailed his boat straight onto the sand

And jump overboard, Said “Now this is grand.”

Then he took a deep breath as he saw all the trees

And he saw the Spaghetti wave about in the breeze.

Now the Gobbolit had found a place just for him,

And climbing the trees, would help keep him slim.

This would make a wonderful children's book, (aside from the eating sheep line, :)). In my mind's eye I can clearly see the illustrations that would fit perfectly to each verse; and most importantly, the language you have used is clear and concise, which is precisely what a kid's book needs.

Much enjoyed.
