Get Home

Get Home

A Chapter by Kathryn Smith

We are the last people standing at the end of the night

We are the greatest pretenders in the cold morning light

How am I gonna get myself home?

As I look up at the stars late at night it feels like I am the last one standing. It almost gives me a feeling of power. Like I have the night and sky all to myself.

In summer after a good run..if I am ever upset, I really don't want to go back home..and let me tell you ...the walk back is always quite interesting.

In the end, home is where the heart is whether you love it or hate it. It's always so fascinating to me how one day I desperately want to run away from it and then the next  I want to return more than anything if I am away.

The birds are mocking me. They call to be heard.

                            The birds are mocking me.

They curse my return.

How am I gonna get myself back home?

There's a light in the bedroom but it's dark

scattered around on the floor are my thoughts...

this is just another night

and we've had many of them..
