Skulls

Skulls

A Chapter by Kathryn Smith

I came here for sanctuary

away from the winds and the sounds of the city

I came here to get some peace

way down deep where the shadows are heavy

Megan.

Megan Miskowic had special needs. She was in my Religious ED class and attended my school. In 8th grade we had my Father for our teacher. One night while walking out I remember having a discussion about her with him.

I asked why she was always by herself..and why she always looked so sad.  My Dad turned to me and said: "Why don't you be her friend Kathryn?"

I became her friend.

I became her best friend

We had our ups and our downs like any other friendship.

I remember after my car crash she went around my entire high school with a giant poster board and markers and had random people sign it. She made the best get well card I have ever received.

Shortly after High School graduation things changed forever.

Megan was suddenly diagnosed with terminal cancer. It was so far along in her spine that chemo wouldn't work.

I watched her slip away.

Now my friend is in the ground. I drive out to the cemetery to visit her often.

Megan was always a hopeless romantic like me.

She never got her first kiss.

She never got a boyfriend...

This song skulls is so dark yet so romantic.

I bet she has a boyfriend in the cemetery.

More than anything I hope I can find someone who loves me SO much that they want to be buried next to me at the end of our lives.

Love is eternal.

When all our friends are dead and just a memory

and we're side by side it's always been just you and me for all to see...

Hold me in your arms

Hold me in your arms

I'll be buried here with you

and I'll hold in these hands

all that remains
