A magnificently beautiful story ... Some might say that it was sad to read, and did not have a happy ending ... But I say, this story is perfect in that perfect timing of two people meeting, clueless that they would ever meet, who needed someone special in their lives at that precise moment in time. She gave you something no one else ever could have, and you gave her more than you will ever know, even though you do know ... This story is tender and touching to the very core of any heart that has ever had a first crush or first love, especially someone as special as I see that she was to you ... And you to her ... A wonderful memorial to her memory in keeping her memory alive ... Thank you for sharing ... Very well written ...

I found this because you left a comment on my best friends poem, asking her to read it. I wasn't sure what to expect at first, but this is a beautiful and heartbreaking story. Sara's story has undoubtedly left an impact on thousands of people, and she will never be forgotten. I'm sorry she's gone.

Sad but beautiful; reminds me of the times when we meet someone that serves like an angel to us... changes us and gives us great lessons. It’s just sad that they can’t stay with us forever but they will surely live in our hearts. beautiful story :)

Well, I am not surprised that I could not make it to the end without getting a lump in my throat. Not only was the story beautiful yet bittersweet, you did your friend an honor by writing it down in such a wonderful manner. You are a great writer and I am sure now, after reading this, Sara had something to do with that by helping you build your confidence. Thank you for sharing this touching story.

This was a great and moving piece of writing. I almost couldn't finish this, it almost reminds me, metaphorically speaking, of my Friend Andrew Schwall. He just past away last week from overdose and its been rough the past few days. A life cut short, its something that has always bothered me to a place I cant not take seriously. You have woven words in such a way that immediately I think of people much like the blonde girl. Those taken too early. Thank you for suggesting this to me, its helped me to read this and to understand that life is cruel in way we cant control.

This actually made me tear up a bit. It’s such a beautiful and sad story. I’d hate it so much if one of my friends died. God forbid if it was my best friend.

I do have some advice grammar-wise, if you don’t mind hearing it. Firstly, in diologue, you never end with a period. “I love this sandwich,” the boy said, his mouth half-full. Unless it’s an exclamation point or a question mark, you always end the diologue with a comma, because the “they said” part is still the same sentence.

Secondly, “Alvin, amused by my pain, turned around and went to his class.” There should be a comma after Alvin.

Other than a few more minor instances of punctuation, and a missing word here and there, I see no other errors. Well done. :3

You referred me to this story after reading my poem about regret, I truly appreciate it because this story is magnificent. Your story sent me chills the second that the blonde girl was introduced and every moment she was mentioned afterward. I could feel exactly what was going to happen as I read further into the story as you left some beautiful foreshadowing and tones but I couldnt stop reading. It was beautiful to be able to see the way she changed him and the impact she had on him. Through your writing I could imagine everything happening even if there wasnt full details on their surroundings. You left room for the imagination of the readers and I loved it.

thank you

I loved reading this so much! My family has a very long line of cancer so I related to it a lot. From reading some of the comments I know that this is a true story. A lot of times when I write about things that happened in my life, I forget that other people haven't lived it. Because of that, I leave out details that make the story worth reading, but it's obvious that you don't have that problem. You told it in a way that everyone can relate to, from being left in school out to having a space where they feel safe, like your treehouse. We have all had people who shaped who we are today, and it's wonderful to see that you are keeping her memory alive. Thank you for this.

Oh my goodness Chase. This made me want to cry. Very well written! I could identify to this very much. When I was born I was 1 pound 6 ounces. I wasnt growing and no one knew why. Growing up I had to go to that little classroom you were describing where other kids who had special needs were. Besides being quite small, my only struggle was with math. I grew up with those kids who were way worse off than I was and I think it gave me more compassion for others. I met my best friend Megan there. She had a learning disability and a speech impediment, but that never mattered to me. When we were a year out of high school Megan, my best friend was diagnosed with terminal cancer on march 6th. She died the following month on April 13th.

She changed my life and I think I did some good to hers as well.

I loved this so much.

Keep writing my friend!
I know how you feel.

OMG, your story made me cry. Beautifully written prose with realistic dialogue, good scene-setting Seamless transitions and appealing style, but more importantly, a deeply moving look into a watershed episode of a child’s life and another child’s death...the story has an authentic feel and impetus that totally involves and engages the reader. The emotional impact is overwhelming. Excellent write.
