RED and WHITE

RED and WHITE

A Poem by Olive Belikov

Girl of red
Girl of white
A girl whose heart
Knew no right

Through the woods
Her feet did run
Without a leash
She knew all fun

Cape of red
Skin of white
A wild girl
The wolf of night

Sweet in day
With ivory smiles
At night she ran
She ran for miles

The hunters watched
The woods in dark
To make her blood
Leave its mark

She was too quick
Her feet too fast
Her fur the color
Of a grand ship mast

Until the man
The man of death
Came to kill
And take her breath

And that he did
With guns of hate
And speed the girl
Didn't compensate

Girl of red
Girl of white
A girl whose eyes
Were the only light

Until the white
Turned into red
The girl, the wolf
Now rests in bed

This is a fantastic piece. So much said in new few words and flawless flowed rhymes too!
My only qualm is 'And speed the girl Didn't compensate' broke it a little. The 'didn't' adds an extra syllable to the line. But I was just racking my brains for an alternative - like 'guns of hate, the girl could not, reciprocate' - which changes it slightly so doesn't work. But really, it's only a silly thing and might just be me :P

Really enjoyed this piece though, thanks a bunch for sharing! :)

An eerie spin on "Little Red Riding Hood" and I think fits in with the movie "Red Riding Hood" very cool play on the colors white and red.

It does seem a bit like Little Red Riding Hood. It seemed like the story was about a girl who can shape shift into a wold, and a nearby hunter shot at her thinking she was game. Or mistook her as an actual wolf. That's how I read it at least.
