I m p e r f e c t i o n

A Poem by Aianarie (INACTIVE)
"

We are all on that infinite path of self-discovery.

"

Blank sheet of paper before me

Ink dripping from my feather pen

Clock behind me ticks incessantly

Aridity has stricken me again.

Why me, of all people, of all poets

To feel such mediocrity is chagrin

How can I, the way that I am now,

Know not where I am to begin?

I was brought up to be perfect

Like the legendary amaranth flower

Dignified, sturdy, and beautiful

Misleading with my lie of power.

Like that flower, I had a grave flaw

One that overcame me, a dark day

When I was lost and cold and alone

And no one knew that I wasn’t okay.

Until tears could be held no longer

And I poured out my aching soul

Crying until nothing was left in me

With nothing to fill the gaping hole.

But I wrote new words, a poem, a story

In which a girl came to know herself

In the smiles and arms of her friends

Who found her heart upon a high shelf.

She learned to talk instead of just listen

To love and always hold out her hand

To dream instead of just wish for nothing

To kneel when it was too much to stand.

I found myself in that girl’s brown eyes

The me that I always longed to be

Breathing in the air of my found fantasy

Happy, complete, and utterly free.

Now tell me, anybody, how can this be

That I, after all this time, am still here

Back where I was before, broken inside

Ignorant to everything I hold so dear.

It seems to me that I cannot change

Who I really am, deep within my core

So I will write another girl’s story

…Maybe then I won’t feel it anymore.

We all have overloads of emotions from time to time and writing is a great way to get those emotions out constructively with beauty that remains in its wake. This is great example of pouring out and overload of swarming emotions that threaten to weight you down.

This definitely tells a deep, heartfelt story. The emotions here are so concrete and believable. This beautiful tale of imperfection is another work of poetic perfection.

its a piece of doubtless class. :) Love it. A flood of sentiments from a river began disturbance as it started and turned out all in the huge mad sea as it ends. Great work. . Keep it up and thanks for sharing...

Great choice of words.
My favorite was:
"But I wrote new words, a poem, a story
In which a girl came to know herself
In the smiles and arms of her friends
Who found her heart upon a high shelf."

Just...perfect.

Your words flow from a mind looking for answers as you question ones purpose in this imperfect life we live in.

Perfectly penned :o)
