You Lie

Don't you dare lie to me

Don't you dare tip your hat

And pretend your not just a stupid rat

You swing your cane

You tap your heels

But you don't know how it feels

I find the extent of human hypocrisy interesting. Every single one of us hates to be lied to and yet we ourselves lie with an ease that would make the Devil proud. I don't believe honesty is part of human nature, as we always tend to take the path of least resistance. When confronted in an aggressive manner or asked a question that makes us uncomfortable, most people will fall back on a hastily constructed lie.

Whether it's about weight, age, some random affiliation or worse things like fraud and cheating...humans lie. And it's not just to others that we lie, but to ourselves as well and most of all.

You have a thought provoking poem here.

It's also about how those in power can lie so easily to those who trust, follow them. But in this poem, I switched their role to being the rat, the visual of what they truly are: sly liars. I suppose the cover picture is ironic in relation to that idea; the rat telling us WE are liars.
You brought out a few points I hadn't even thought about when I wrote the poem. Thanks for sharing your viewpoint, it makes me do a double take on my own poem.

Politicians and government officials are the worst liars of all. They pretend to be on our side, milking us for votes and monetary support. Of course, once they have their "election" and are comfortable in their office, every single promise they made goes to the bottom of their high rise office trash can.
