Lilting Echos

Lilting Echos

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer
"

Dreamland

"
The lilting echo of the lyre lays easy on my sensibilities.

Reaching for my heart it clings to my soul,

leaving the remnants of harmony within.

Weighted lids of rest fall beneath the warming day, and I long to dream.

Dreams to carry me across the veil to the Never Place,

Where dreams live. Where youth remains, and wishes give us wings.

Wings to fly and play or flee the shadowed places.

Where sorrows are defeated with butterfly kisses,

And sorrow, like our tears are washed away by the Sea.

Thank you Tim 😊
A splendid poem about dreams and longing for peace and happiness, leaving all of your sorrows to " to be defeated"....This flows so well, a joy to read Cherrie...

I'm flattered thank you 😊.
Dreams can take us anywhere. I can usually only remember fragments of dreams, but I've had some remarkable ones - including one in which one of my best friends killed my sister and then tried to frame me for it! Make of that what you will! Most dreams are less dramatic, thank goodness! A nicely penned piece!

That is a wild dream. Sounds like a made for TV movie.
Wow! You are on poetic fire! I think I've said that before, but really! Fantasi.....tastic! For some reason the 'weighted lids of rest' got me good. I'll be looking for some butterflies next time I have some sorrows.

May I make one teeny tiny little suggestion? Drop the s on gives. 'And wishes give us wings.'

Those sneaky S's! Snaking their way into our songs. Shame on them!
Just love that opening stanza with its soft alliteration. At the mention of a lyte I was already slowing down in a state of relaxation. I often fall asleep while listening to music. Very nice Cherrie.

Oops typo. I did mean lyre :)
I like the line about lyre music and the whole association with Morpheus. There's a video on YouTube called The Lyre of Mesopotamia where a reconstructed version of a five thousand year old instrument is played. It's pretty interesting to listen to. I like "sorrows are defeated by butterfly kisses". Great line. I enjoyed this dreamy write.

Gentle, kind and worthwhile thoughts shared dear Cherrie.
"Dreams to carry me across the veil to the Never Place,
Where dreams live. Where youth lives forever,
And wishes gives us wings."
The above lines, I did enjoy. We hope, one day, we will find the places and the people we loved again. maybe the wings of time can be kind to us? Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.
