Lilting Echos

Lilting Echos

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer
"

Dreamland

"
The lilting echo of the lyre lays easy on my sensibilities.

Reaching for my heart it clings to my soul,

leaving the remnants of harmony within.

Weighted lids of rest fall beneath the warming day, and I long to dream.

Dreams to carry me across the veil to the Never Place,

Where dreams live. Where youth remains, and wishes give us wings.

Wings to fly and play or flee the shadowed places.

Where sorrows are defeated with butterfly kisses,

And sorrow, like our tears are washed away by the Sea.

Dreams are such curious things, so diverse and sometimes scary. But you have presented a warmer, almost melancholy mood here. This is pleasant to read and reread. (A side note, and not a suggestion for change. --- Being a rhymer, my mind does things automatically sometimes. So, when I read your last line: "And sorrow, like our tears are carried out in the bay" (My brain added) And they sail away, sail away, sail away.

Bow to strings, my psaltery cries with you. A lonely melody echoing in an Ozark night. There is beauty in sorrow and joy too, The hills possess their own alchemy.
