Broken

Broken

A Poem by Daniel Gardner
"

I wrote this about my three year old son who has a tumor on his brain. He goes into surgery to remove it in the morning.

"

Here I sit brokenhearted

Praying that my son
Does not become one of the departed

I will never forget how it all started
Three years ago
He began capturing hearts

Through birth pains he came in
Unknown to us his brain altered its image
But hid its true intentions

Now he is asleep
Deep in a dream
Of Thomas the choo choo train and chocolate ice cream

I fear the worst
But pray for the best
This is truly my greatest test

He is my first born
Him I truly adore
So I cry on the floor

I must be strong
I must remain calm

His last words before they put him to sleep
Play over and over like a heartbeat
"Daddy you make me feel better."
"Yes my son," as I kiss him on the cheek

This poem touched the very center of my soul. That being said, I pray that your son's surgery was successful and that you are holding him in your arms at this moment feeling all the love in your heart rejoicing.

Very heartbreaking for you to have to go through this and especially for your son. The poem brought tears to my eyes. I sure hope everything went well an all is better for your whole family.

This is terribly sad but wonderfully written. I bet he'll read it when he's older and smile at how much his daddy loves him =) Good luck for tomorrow.

This is an immense poem, very heart-warming. You expressed your feelings amazingly. The fourth stanza is my favourite; expresses childlike naiveness in a very cute way... I really hope everything goes well with the surgery!

A very decent mixture of picturing a dark and gloomy situation and still being able to see enlightning pictures in your sons head. This is very emotional and very well written. Excellent write and my prayers go out to you, your son, and family
