Purple Iris

Purple Iris

A Poem by Dani California

Peeling away dried skin of purple iris

and roses red;

exposing inner bulbs, left to die,

in unmade beds;

wilted leaves curl up in corners

where hopeless assemble;

thorns draw blood from passersby

whose fingers tremble;

hardened soil seeks heartfelt tears

from merciful skies;

winds change direction, abandoning release,

of nature’s cry;

cold hands bury birth of color

under frozen sheets;

red prays for warmth of loving light

to unseal defeat;

peeling away dead skin of purple iris

and roses red;

carelessly abandoned, in search of a maker

for unmade beds.

Deep, deep, deep........fantastic and I am in awe of this piece of excellent poetry. WOW! I can go in so many directions with this. I wish I was a mind reader, to know just where your thoughts were when you wrote this. I'm sorry it took me so long to get here. This will go into my favorites and I will come back to interpret this as I think deeply on it.

DC, The Purple Iris is a truly magical read. You have a keen eye for taking everyday objects and crafting them into unique perspectives.

"hardened soil seeks heartfelt tears,

from merciful skies;

winds change direction, abandoning release,

of nature's cry; " ~ These are parts of creation we encounter daily and never think twice about them until something or someone (you) brings it to our attention. I enjoyed reading; x 3 actually.

Dani, ur switchin with a bit of variety! Me likey! Hehehe.

The purple iris, great choice. Unquily orignal. The depth to capture the strrugle for life and need of feeding, and care is impressivly profound. Loved the ending to completely tie together the importance of symbolically of the unmade beds.

Sorry for being distant, not much free time considering the circumstances

Much love n' respect

Intricate and complex, beautiful and tragic. I agree with the other reviewers that this is amazing work. Such a creative analogy.

winds change direction, abandoning release,
of nature's cry;

Every minute everything is changing...

The piece also has a mysterious air to it as though there is more waiting to be unraveled.

Once again, I don't think you could have written a better conclusion, Dani.

Quite Awesome, my friend :-)

This is by far one of my favorite pieces i have read by you, Danielle.

Truly amazing. You paint a beautiful picture with words and it definitely had great flow.

"wilted leaves curl up in corners,
where hopeless assemble;
thorns draw blood from passersby,
whose fingers tremble;'

these lines are by far my favorite but the "who's fingers tremble" seems to break the flow but in a strange way still sounds like it fits right in. I'm not sure what it is about it but i definitely love this piece! Great work.

Your mind is definitely a unique one. You can draw the most complex inner thoughts from such otherwise ignored subjects.
That's truly a talent.
I appreciate your attention to detail and of course am always a fan.

Dani girl, this is astounding. Truly deep in its meaning, and your words just swept me away on a journey to the garden! It reminds me of the concept that people are like onions, peeling away the layers to discover what's really inside. I really like this line "peeling away dead skin of purple iris, and roses red;", for some reason the roses red part stands out to me. It's like the red, the roses red are the true self. Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but that's my take on it!
Nicely done again. Yay!

Nice Dani, as always. My grand mother use to tend flowers, I could see the Iris at the end of the season, drying up and dying. the pretty purple color a kind of light brown thin shell is all that is left of it's former beautiful self.

Fantastic.

I dare to have the privilege to be the first and review this incredible masterpiece of poetic skill. I'm amazed how you manage to make sadness seem so beautiful to the mind.
" hardened soil seeks heartfelt tears,
from merciful skies;
winds change direction, abandoning release,
of nature's cry;
"
Speechless? Me? I thought never!!!
