Dust and Me

Dust and Me

A Poem by AcasualPawn
"

I presented the relation between dust and me in a dramatic manner

"
I wiped the shirt covered by dust,
With frustration and discomfort.
It was the filth beneath my shoe
Trying to trespass through.

Ignoring the thoughts
I walked it past,
But suddenly huge wind starts blowing,
Dust also starts flowing,
Taking the shape of sculpture
Like my shadow in the mirror.

Thunders reverberate in mind,
A scene flashed of my dying.
As dust's sculpture and me joined.

Thanks neeyati for your review....
I think the poet is here speaking of the inevitability of death. Dust is an ancient symbol for death: "From dust you came; to dust you shall return." In modern times, the American group Kansas recorded a song called "Dust in the Wind," which was a meditation on impermanence. In this work he looks upon the dust on his shirt and sees it as death trying to "trespass through." Though he tries to ignore it, the wind blows up a dust storm that takes the shape of a sculpture "Like a shadow in the mirror," the shadow of death. In the last verse the sculpture and the speaker merge, a symbol of death's final victory. Not a comforting work, this, but a reminder of the words of the Anglican Book of Common Prayer: "In the midst of life we are in death." Well done.
