Gone Fishing

Just enough a hook
to fit the size of hunger.
Pain the daily catch.

I called you today
from remote connecting link.
You dropped off the line.

Changing channels I
heard consuming monologue
responding ........... white noise.

if you tried to fish the Great Lakes this year you know the frustration. The water level was too high for the inland lakes, streams and rivers. The fish that would otherwise spawn, refused. It rained far too much during the summer months and it was cold far too long into the spring. "Fishing" is a masculine (though noble) pseudonym for being in love. You turned the poems beginning into the "Odyssey" where perplexed-bewilderedness became the Lothphagi of indolence. But it was a love poem after all. And No amount of lotus eating can make forlorn lovers listen.....dana

Okay, this may be an overshare but I have PTSD and when I read this, I thought this expressed what it is like to live with it perfectly. Pain is the catch of the day, when you least expect it and think you are going to get something totally different. When you try to connect, to explain to people what its like, they tune you out. You are left with this vague noise in your head like a radio that never finds a station. That may not be what you intended when you wrote this poem. Readers always bring their own meaning. But this spoke to me, and I thank you for that!

Senyru glory, dear sir, wrapped in a somehow Linus blanket awareness - mayhaps. Beware: new habits die hard, contacts are suddenly fractured, tread carefully - please do not walk on the lines. That white noise is a retardant, a smoke screen stopping us from feeling how we were meant to feel. Perhaps? Your kind of fishing is put in such a way, thoughts will grow, form a chain and.. maybe.. who knows get somewhere, some time! ' Just enough a hook - to fit the size of hunger. - Pain the daily catch.

you're s o welcome;
Love these interconnecting wordplay of starting with the hook, line and sunk(er) 😊
The first is a masterpiece in itself, the true definition of senryu without a word wasted and containing more than the sum of its parts, and with the added sympathetic ouch factor of the last line too. I feel your pain.
But changing tack with the second was a pleasant surprise and dropping off the line, eurgh! Again, I feel your pain.
Lastly, the white noise screams amongst the screams of modernity, where pretty much everything is white noise and we dangle ourselves on hooks of fearing and filling the silence with all the shiny shiny distractions that distract us these days from seeing others, as we glue eyes to screens every waking moment, only looking up to tut at people who we crash into and blame for not looking where they are going. The cheek of some folk!
Again, I feel your pain man 😊

Speaking with the void or communicating with the silence is what I refer to this as. It’s difficult and definitely not fun.

An awesome treat to the readers dear poet and friend. I like your poems that has strong messages in a great poetic form. Many things in life have baits to lure us and hook us into their powers. Marketing comes to mind with all its tricks and trucks of merchandise. Love, on the other hand, comes naturally. It fulfills the divine essence. It hurts when is lost with communications being cut. At least the fisherman tries but can be surprised with the outcomes. I love it sir E.

some times the most we can hope for is a chance to dip our hooks maybe we don't even need the bait anymore maybe it's just enough to leave ourselves open to the chance of connection and not so much about landing one:) as always you have a way of making me (pond)er
