An Empty Chair

An Empty Chair

A Poem by Gee
"

Who will you miss this Christmas

"
An Empty Chair.

The glimmer in the distance
the light at tunnels end
brings little joy or comfort
for hearts that need to mend.
And the hope now felt by many
will not ease the sad despair
nor will it stem the tears o'er festive days
at the sight of an empty chair..

As usual lately, this is some of your best poetry that I've read. There's a depth & sincerity to your words that reaches in & grabs the reader. It's good to remind us that most people really aren't happy during the holidays & this year would seem to make it worse. Sometimes people show off all they've bought & all they've baked, but they never stop to reach out to those who are NOT showing off their holiday booty, those who are NOT posting all their happy adventures online. We all need to be more sensitive & reach out (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

We should, although many will not, spare a thought for those who have lost folk over the last 9month.. read more
I have to admit, the 'rona virus has given me an excuse to not have to deal with the two of my worst sister's. And, I don't have to drive all the way down to f*****g texas this year... so, there's that.

That's not really true though... Even my a*****e siblings, I really do miss them. And I'd happily drive 15 hours just to get into an argument and listen to my mother yell at all of us for being "cunty" (her word) in person.

... we all usually make up and get hammered after the arguments. It's actually a pretty good time. Family is hard not to love.

I still hate christmas.

Thank you for your sage like advice
grieving is difficult .... but such deep sorrow, in my opinion, is one of the strongest things we experience and can build character .. but at such times it is true .. as loss sweeps over ... nothing will abate nor explain it away ... Thank God it does wash over tho ... Thank the Lord for that ;) strong theme .. love the rhyming and smooth flow ..its an aspect of the holidays much not thought about unless one has lost someone during those times .. it can be a yearly reminder of that "..Empty Chair" .. well done says i ..

This year, without doubt I think this little gem will go to the hearts of many. Most of all it will be my Mum far away in her nursing home. Still hanging in there by a thread. So many others though. I reckon every household will be missing someone Gee. Keep safe and well.

I think that far too many will be relating to this Gee, in this year of all years. A time of celebration and togetherness making those empty chairs Al the more obvious for their absence. A photo in frame is no substitute for those no longer with us, but remembering her through the pain is a fitting tribute to the Matriarch so sadly missed that it could ever be the same without her.
19 Christmas' since my Dad passed and his empty chair still speaks volumes to how much he meant, as your Mum meant to you Al.
