The bleary eyed, the yawning
the folk that watch the moon
amuse themselves with this 'n' that
'til dawn comes far to soon,
to nudge them to another day
where waking hours are fraught
with nodding off and mini dreams
of sleep that's ever sought,
but never found such is the curse
bestowed upon so many
the only sleep they're sure to get
when the ferryman paid his penny.
Are you sure you don't want to have a deeper conversation about how we describe words? I'm pretty sure we'd have a blast.

Hope you are keeping well Dave
It is too often my sleep comes during day instead of night
very frustrating but I'm hoping to stay away from that ferryman a while longer.
I am assuming this was written either late PM or early AM!!
Yes, you have just written about me. The woman who can’t sleep more than two hours without waking up. It!s a curse, but having said that I am not eager to meet the ferryman:) Pleased there are other insomniacs around. Good to have company. Enjoy your new year celebrations, whatever you do Gee.

Thanks Christine. At least you'll be awake to see in the new year:))
A nod to the insomniacs of the world here. Liked very much the reference to Charon, the ferryman of the Styx. When you cross that river, you get a long, long sleep.

Here's wishing you and yours a happy, healthy new year Stella.
Take care.
I am blessed with not having this problem, and now with the 9 different meds I'm on I sleep even more LOL. I say this at 7 am after sleeping 7 hours and am now looking forward to my nap before work LOL
Thank you for this, it reminds me simultaneously of Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing" and also, when I asked my mother when I can finally rest, as my thoughts are very busy, "when your dead" she replied with love and frankness. Your conclusion with the Ferryman sums everything up, thank you for this beautiful insight and putting it into writing.
*(also, I forgot to explain that I interpreted this as more of a comment on a life's journey rather than a nights sleep;)

Belated thanks for dropping in, tis appreciated.
Happy New year to you
Poets in general I think. I have slept when tired, regardless of sun/moon or neither for as long as I can remember. May have come out of the womb on a whole other bio-rhythm to the rest of mankind.
