The End

The End

A Poem by Giulia King

She was standing in front of him.
Tears rolling down her cheeks.
Their souls were no longer entwined.
Naked at the thought that this is it.
This is where it ends.
Her heart breaks just by the thought that this is the last time
she looks at his face.
This beautiful face that she once kissed,
Lips that told her he's hers.
"And I'm yours" she would always breathe out.
"I don't know what to say."
"I know" she whispered.
"The fact that you don't know means you've already given up."
"You are perfect. So perfect", he said with tears in his eyes.
"I don't deserve you."
"You're the first person I called home.
And for that I wanted to say thank you."
She looked up at the sky as if the answer would fall down on her hands.
But it never did.
This breathless moment tugged on her heart.
At last she said,
"I am eternally grateful for you"
She looked at him one last time.
Those dark mystical eyes looked so broken.
"I'm happy the stars let me meet you."
He took one step closer to her.
His hand touched her wavy hair,
he leaned forward and gave her a kiss on her forehead.
She gathered strength and walked away,
thinking if she survives this,
surely there's nothing in the world she cannot do.

'The End'
Guilla King,
First of all, congratulations on the accomplishment of placing first in a contest. So proud of you! Yes, this little story is all about the end of something beautiful. I kept hoping that it would end with a new leaf turned and bring about a new beginning for these two... I enjoyed the way your two characters communicated as well, very romantic.
Bless you!
Kathy

A real break up feel as though you lost them to death. What you wrote was real. Heart hurting just from reading. Awesome!

Thank you so much for this kind review, Diane. I'm happy it made you feel something :)
This is where it ends.

Unfortunately this happens, despite the love you feel for another sometimes it is not meant to be.

You write so beautifully.

Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for reading, Roxane!
Wow, this is so beautiful and heartbreakingly tragic. I can really feel the emotions in this, the hopelessness and helpless feeling is overwelming. What makes this hit so hard is that it doesn't seem like a cliche, onesided break up where in one person is just a jerk and doesn't love the other. It seems like both people actually love and care deeply for each other, but know no matter what it isn't meant to work out yet they hold on just for the fact that they love each other. It's very deep. Great job.

Thanks for reading!
Beautifully written, Gullia. Quite beautifully done. Very sad, very evocative, very poignant, very well observed and described. My only suggestion, on 2nd read, is to possibly re-examine your tenses, which jump about a bit between past and present.
