The End

The End

A Poem by Giulia King

She was standing in front of him.
Tears rolling down her cheeks.
Their souls were no longer entwined.
Naked at the thought that this is it.
This is where it ends.
Her heart breaks just by the thought that this is the last time
she looks at his face.
This beautiful face that she once kissed,
Lips that told her he's hers.
"And I'm yours" she would always breathe out.
"I don't know what to say."
"I know" she whispered.
"The fact that you don't know means you've already given up."
"You are perfect. So perfect", he said with tears in his eyes.
"I don't deserve you."
"You're the first person I called home.
And for that I wanted to say thank you."
She looked up at the sky as if the answer would fall down on her hands.
But it never did.
This breathless moment tugged on her heart.
At last she said,
"I am eternally grateful for you"
She looked at him one last time.
Those dark mystical eyes looked so broken.
"I'm happy the stars let me meet you."
He took one step closer to her.
His hand touched her wavy hair,
he leaned forward and gave her a kiss on her forehead.
She gathered strength and walked away,
thinking if she survives this,
surely there's nothing in the world she cannot do.

This is so sad, it almost reads like the beginning to an interesting story, I really liked this, it made you feel the emotions clearly. :)

You are very welcome :)
Beautifully sad but with a tinge of hope in the end. The dialogue is the best part of this poem, so sweet and tender and gentle. I like the title, it fits the poem very well. This is one of the more romantic poems I've read on here.

They seem to be soul mates yet the man seems unsure for some reason...

Overall, beautiful poem. Nicely done, Gullia. :)

Thank you so much, Kevin. I'm happy you liked this piece :)
I can relate to it right now. I could feel that it is so heart wrenching to move on and very heart breaking when you realise that you've already moved on but still miss that person's presence. It takes a brave heart to watch that person go with someone else. Well written I feel like you have written this for me and this poem has already made a place in my heart. Thank you so much for sharing I feel better after reading this also I feel I have been strong thank you so much for such an encouragement.

I agree with you. ☺
I could definitely relate to the themes in this ... everything in this piece resonated with my life in some way, from the strength involved in letting go to the beauty in the stars and sky. I like how you mixed the two, with the overall plot conveying melancholy and the imagery creating beauty and mystery. The enthralling picture at the end was a nice bonus too. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much for this sweet review, William! :)
"She looked up at the sky as if the answer would fall down on her hands.
But it never did."

I so felt these lines. Because this is exactly how I've felt at times.

You've given it a truly realistic ending which although seems impossible at first but not unachievable. We're only strong when we give ourselves the power to be.

I really loved this piece! I think I've said it before, but this was mesmerizing and somewhat a tear-jerker...

as if she's saying goodbye to a soldier, like she knows there's no coming back this time. I enjoy the dialog style in your writings, it makes it easy to follow. i can really connect to the idea of the end. very good! absolutely love the song too!
