Mirrors

Mirrors

A Poem by Gee
"

Vanity is not a strong point, same goes for forgiveness

"
It has been nigh on sixty years
and although I'm with you daily, hourly,
I seek you out less and less
as seeing you is like seeing him,
and that I chose not to do fifty plus years ago
as abandonment, even then to a young child,
and more so now as a father,
was neither wanted nor understood.
I guess though this would have been worse
if all households not in the same boat,
many kids, mum, and strange men leaving
in the small hours, secretly, but not,
bad company seemingly better than none at all
for women whose self worth,
in their own eyes, worthless.

It has been nigh on sixty years
and, although not through choice,
I will see you later,
in shop windows, in puddles, passing cars,
perhaps leading me to reflect on what may have been...

Though you see him in yourself a mirror is just the opposite of who you truly are. I hope you take the time to study yourself in the mirror and be content with the man you see today. Don't let his abandonment depict who you've strived to not be. All in all the piece does it's justice. Well done.

We share a name and DNA only :))
Thank you
this is so cool but such a sad truth. the older i get the less i look in the mirror. i think we see what we want to see anyway. i much prefer seeing my reflection in other places and things. life has a way of distorting our truth. as i have read from others here in the cafe, too bad there isn't a mirror for the inside of us. bravo ... :)

Aye, she and mirrors are not a good mix.
Thanks Pete
Abandonment is a cruel cut at anytime but it leaves deepest scars on a child ..... there is always that image you describe that lurks in unlikely places even in music sometimes ..

Our childhoods follow us throughout our lives. The years pass and the calendar pages turn, but we are still children in our psyches. We can not change the past. We must accept it. Reflecting on what might have been is a dangerous pasttime. Well written poetry. Lydi**

This is a very insightful read. I think a lot of men know this feeling too well. This poem is like the definition of being a man. It carries a strong, masculine energy through out. I admire it. The poem speaks for itself.

Thank you..
I get it. Abandonment casts a long shadow. Whether you loved the person, or hated them, when they walk away you see them everywhere whether you want to or not. It's a disruption that tears the fabric of our being and we spend our life trying to mend it.

Thank you Zoe
I know why you....

One day, I'm going to eat you.

I just hope you'll do the same,
eventually...

I will give you the recipe

About how I love you
(and the end of the earth)

LOL, you'd have to cook me for a very long time
I liked the honest thoughts my friend.
"bad company seemingly better than none at all
for women whose self worth,
in their own eyes, worthless."
I do agree with the above lines. Bad company isn't needed. Thank you my friend for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

You are welcome my friend.
Hurt incurred at a young age can linger for many years, as this offering demonstrates. The anger at the absent father is still very much alive here, but the feeling toward the mother is somewhat more complicated. The love is very evident, but mixed in with it is disappointment and pity. Forgiveness and release are often very difficult to achieve, and no one who has not been there can tell another what they must do.
